The exhibition “Amedeo Modigliani” in the suggestive Palazzo Blu in Pisa, represents a rich and careful selection of works from the Centre Pompidou in Paris with magnificent works from major public and private collections, both Italian and foreign, and recreates the cultural atmosphere in which the unique and exciting experience of painting of his time and the artistic life of Amedeo Modigliani developed, from the time of its formation in Livorno until he moved to Paris in 1906, in the constant and restless search for the new. It’s in the culture of the Paris avant-garde of the Fauves, including friends such as Marc Chagall, Max Jacob, Georges Braque, Jean Cocteau that the dissolute artist and tombeur de femmes matures his poetic art, strongly influenced by Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec and Cézanne. Along with the works of Modigliani, there will also be the great masterpieces of the artists of the time, his contemporaries and fellow adventures in Montparnasse including Chaim Soutine, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger and many popular figures such as Maurice Utrillo, Suzanne Valadon, André Derain and Raoul Dufy, Gino Severini and Juan Gris. Rounding out the exhibition, a significant selection of sculptures by Modigliani and the great sculptors of the period such as the famous Constantin Brancusi and still an exceptional series of photographs taken by Brancusi himself. A unique opportunity, then, to revisit a fundamental cultural season that has influenced the entire European artistic production.

Nelle suggestive sale di Palazzo Blu di Pisa, la mostra “Amedeo Modigliani” presenta una ricca e attenta selezione di opere provenienti dal Centre Pompidou di Parigi insieme a magnifici capolavori provenienti dalle principali collezioni pubbliche e private, italiane e straniere ricreeranno l’atmosfera culturale in cui maturò la straordinaria ed entusiasmante esperienza della pittura dell’epoca e la vicenda artistica di Amedeo Modigliani dal periodo della sua formazione a Livorno fino al suo trasferimento a Parigi, nel 1906, nella costante e irrequieta ricerca del nuovo.

È nella Parigi della cultura avanguardista, dei fauves, tra amici quali Marc Chagall, Max Jacob, Georges Braque, Jean Cocteau che il dissoluto artista e tombeur de femmes, matura la sua poetica artistica, influenzato fortemente da Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec e Cézanne. Insieme alle opere di Modigliani, saranno presenti anche i grandi capolavori di artisti dell’epoca, suoi contemporanei e compagni di avventure a Montparnasse tra i quali Chaim Soutine, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger e tante figure popolari come Maurice Utrillo, Suzanne Valadon, André Derain o Raoul Dufy, Juan Gris e Gino Severini. A completare il percorso espositivo, una significativa selezione di sculture di Modigliani e dei grandi scultori dell’epoca come il celebre Constantin Brancusi e ancora una eccezionale serie di fotografie scattate da Brancusi stesso. Un’opportunità unica, dunque, per rivisitare una fondamentale stagione culturale che ha influenzato l’intera produzione artistica europea.
