There are five intense stories, cornerstones in the January schedule of the historical cinema Odeon in Florence, linked by a common thread of the biographical film and directed by filmmakers of great fame. In the hall there is a great selection of films that recall important characters from the international historical panorama. The first title from those five is Big Eyes, of the eclectic Tim Burton, programmed to show between the 1^st and 5^th of January: the true story of painter Margaret Keane, famous in the 50s and the 60s for her paintings depicting children with big eyes. Her husband Walter (Oscar winning Christoph Waltz), was considered for years the author of his wife’s work, which became a cultural phenomenon for the American art. Following is American Sniper (from the 6^th until the 11^th of January), the new film of Clint Eastwood that will bring to light the homonym biography of legendary American sniper Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper. From the 15^th until the 21^st of January will arrive The Imitation Game of Morten Tyldum, straight from the Toronto Film Festival, with the talented Benedict Cumberbatch in the role of Alan Turing, one of the greatest mathematicians of the twentieth century, persecuted for his homosexuality. As we approach the end of the month, in the hall will be projected The theory of Everything of James Marsh(from the 22^nd until the 28^th of January) that has received great reviews at the Toronto Film Festival: a moving life of the famous astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, struck in his youth by a grave illness, with the surprising starring of Eddie Redmayne. The last not to miss biography is Mr. Turner, from the 29^th until the 1^st of February: the film directed by the British filmmaker Mike Leigh is interpreted by Timothy Spall, evokes the last 25 years of the eccentric British painter William Turner. Next to these exceptional biographic films, on the 19^th of January, thanks to the collaboration with Cineteca di Bologna, Odeon offers to the public the award-winning Barry Lyndon (1975) of Stanley Kubrick, a grand classic in the history of film in a not to miss restored original version. In projection there’s also the comedy Horrible Bosses 2, with Jennifer Aniston and Chrisoph Waltz (26 and 27 January). For the Odeon.Doc selection, two documentaries are selected that confront the theme of the ambient and the relationship between man and earth: Iriria Nina Tierra (16 January) of the Florentine director Carmelo Camilli and Another World (27 January) of Thoams Torelli; both directors will attend the showings. However on the 22^nd a special event will take place with the exclusive screening of Goltzius and the Pelican Company, written and directed by the British director Peter Greenway, which premiered at the Rome Festival. Like always Odeon Cinema, located in Piazza Strozzi, one of the most famous places in the city, organizes a varied program, continuing to enhance the value of film and international contemporary cinema in the “truest” way possible: with projections strictly in their original language. Sono cinque intense storie i capisaldi del programma di gennaio dello storico Cinema Odeon di Firenze, legate dal fil rouge del film biografico e dirette da registi di gran fama. In sala un’ottima selezione di pellicole che ricordano importanti personaggi del panorama storico internazionale. Il primo titolo della cinquina è Big Eyes, dell’eclettico Tim Burton, in programmazione dall’1 al 5 gennaio: la vera storia della pittrice Margaret Keane, famosa negli anni ’50 e ’60 per i suoi dipinti che ritraevano bambini dagli occhi grandi. Il marito Walter (il Premio Oscar Christoph Waltz), fu considerato per anni l’autore delle opere della moglie, divenute un fenomeno culturale dell’arte americana. A seguire American Sniper (dal 6 all’11 gennaio), il nuovo film di Clint Eastwood che riporta alla luce l’omonima biografia del leggendario cecchino americano Chris Kyle, interpretato da Bradley Cooper. Dal 15 al 21 gennaio arriva The Imitation Game diMorten Tyldum, direttamente dal Festival del Cinema di Toronto, con un bravissimo Benedict Cumberbatch nei panni di Alan Turing, uno dei più grandi matematici del XX secolo, perseguitato per la sua omosessualità. Avvicinandoci alla fine del mese, esce in sala The theory of Everything di James Marsh (dal 22 al 28 gennaio), che ha riscosso ottimi consensi al Toronto Film Festival: un commovente racconto sulla vita del celebre astrofisico inglese Stephen Hawking, colpito giovanissimo da un brutto male, con protagonista un sorprendente Eddie Redmayne. L’ultimo immancabile biopic in programmazione èMr. Turner, dal 29 gennaio all’1 febbraio: il film, diretto dal regista britannico Mike Leigh e interpretato da Timothy Spall, evoca gli ultimi 25 anni di vita dell’eccentrico pittore britannico William Turner. Accanto a questi eccezionali film biografici, il 19 gennaio, grazie alla collaborazione con la Cineteca di Bologna, l’Odeon propone il pluripremiato Barry Lyndon (1975) di Stanley Kubrick, un grande classico della storia del cinema in un’imperdibile versione originale restaurata. In proiezione c’è anche la commedia Come ammazzare il capo 2 (Horrible Bosses 2), con Jennifer Aniston e Christoph Waltz (26 e 27 gennaio). Per la sezione Odeon.Doc, due documentari che affrontano la tematica dell’ambiente e del rapporto uomo-terra: Iriria Niña Tierra (16 gennaio) del regista fiorentino Carmelo Camilli e Un altro mondo (27 gennaio)di Thomas Torelli; entrambi i registi saranno presenti in sala. Giorno 22 invece, un evento speciale con la proiezione in esclusiva di Goltzius and the Pelican Company, scritto e diretto dal regista inglesePeter Greenway e presentato in anteprima al Festival di Roma. Come sempre il Cinema Odeon, situato in Piazza Strozzi, una delle più celebri location della città, si fa promotore di un programma assai vario, continuando a valorizzare i film e il cinema contemporaneo internazionale nel modo più “vero” che possa esserci: con proiezioni rigorosamente in lingua originale.
