“Nightlife” on the Move

Florence can offer a lot of relaxing moments even during nighttime. But how does it move this somehow mysterious world, and what are the present tendencies that unite “the nightlife people”?

We spoke to a few professionals from the geographical heart of the “nightlife” that is spoken so much of lately. “The tendency of people is to find a unique product of its kind” says Riccardo Tarantoli, owner of Red Garter, the historic place in Via dei Benci. “The ‘everyone does it all’ does not exist anymore; young people today love to wander in different places on the same night in order to get a different experience every time”. His bar joins into this “philosophy”, focusing on karaoke with live music and its Steakhouse type restaurant, based exclusively on meat, with no firsts or appetizers. On the other side Brac, a vegetarian coffee shop-restaurant in Via dei Vagellai, an “alternative” place to relax, focuses on reading, offering their clients a wide variety of volumes to browse during their stay. Sasha, animator and creator of the place takes the customization of the offer to extreme: best customer care, satisfying the client’s individual requests. He is rather skeptical to the municipal project to decentralize part of the activities to the Cascine: “I don’t think moving the nightlife as if it was a menagerie is a winning move…the administration sees the nightlife only as a problem, rather than a characteristic of modern society”.

To the decentralization process also joins Soul Kitchen, one of the newest places from Via dei Benci. Lorenzo, head-bartender, is in favor of the project, clarifying: “The project may have great success as part of a real revitalization of the urban areas. Among these places may also be the Lungarni”. A rather interesting suggestion. As far as the supply part, Soul Kitchen focuses on diversity: restaurant-bar downtown, food stand at Cascine-Tamburello, “Light” space in Campo di Marte with afternoon activities and most of all a collaboration with the NothingInc Association for l’Off-Bar in the gardens of Fortezza, hosting emerging guests, jazz/underground music and short film festivals.

Firenze offre numerose opportunità di svago anche nelle ore notturne. Ma come si sta “muovendo” questo mondo un po’ misterioso, quali sono le attuali tendenze che coinvolgono il “popolo della notte”? Ne abbiamo parlato con alcuni operatori, nel cuore geografico di quella “movida” che di recente ha fatto tanto discutere. “La tendenza del pubblico è trovare un prodotto unico nel suo genere” ci dice Riccardo Tarantoli, proprietario del Red Garter, lo storico locale di via dei Benci. “Il “tutti si fa tutto” non funziona più, i giovani oggi amano cambiare tra vari locali per fare di volta in volta esperienze diverse”. Il suo locale si inserisce in questa “filosofia” puntando in particolare sul karaoke con musica dal vivo e sulla ristorazione da Steak-House, basata esclusivamente sulla carne, senza primi piatti o aperitivi. Su un versante opposto il Brac, caffè-ristorante vegetariano in via dei Vagellai, luogo “alternativo” da relax-time, punta sulla lettura, offrendo ai clienti una vasta scelta di volumi da sfogliare durante la loro permanenza.

Sasha, animatore e ideatore del locale, interpreta la personalizzazione dell’offerta fino alle estreme conseguenze: massima cura del cliente nella soddisfazione delle sue richieste individuali. È piuttosto scettico verso il progetto comunale di decentrare parte delle attività alle Cascine: “Non considero una cosa vincente spostare la movida, come fosse un serraglio… l’Amministrazione vede la vita notturna solo come un problema, piuttosto che una caratteristica della civiltà moderna”. Al programma di decentramento partecipa invece il Soul Kitchen, uno dei più nuovi locali di via dei Benci. Lorenzo, capo-barman, è favorevole con alcune precisazioni: “Il progetto può avere successo ma nel quadro di una reale rivitalizzazione urbana delle aree da coinvolgere. Tra queste potrebbero esserci anche i Lungarni”. Una proposta particolarmente interessante. Quanto alla tipologia dell’offerta, il Soul Kitchen punta sulla diversificazione: bar-ristorante in centro, stand alle Cascine-Tamburello, spazio “Light” al Campo di Marte con attività pomeridiane e, soprattutto, collaborazione con l’associazione NothingInc per l’Off-Bar ai giardini della Fortezza, con ospiti emergenti, musica jazz/underground, rassegne di cortometraggi.
