“Magnificent” and “La Divina Bellezza”

It is not to establish a list that will encourage ancient rivalry between Florence and Siena that we speak about in this article, but about two videos, wonders of technology applied through art, Magnificent of Florence and La Divina Bellezza of Siena.

Even if they were both born from the need to draw to Tuscany direct visitors at the Expo Milan, they are designed to be featured longer in the Exhibition itself. There are discussions about making them permanent installations, because they chose to narrate two different stories, both of them using projected works of art, in a synthesis that recalls and revitalizes the meaning of paintings, architecture and sculptures from distant centuries.

“Magnificent. The incredible story about beauty that has revolutionized the world”, digital work created by Felice Limosani uses in the Italian version, the recited voice of Maestro Andrea Bocelli. The subtitle also hints the argument that Limosani has pursued, where he sustains that “we need to guide the young generation to cherish beauty”. When was it born and what does Beauty represent? Magnificent is a visual and sound experience close to the new forms of expression, which use the animation of the author and immerses the viewer in a world of accessible artistic works of art in such detail, which could not be understood in museums or churches. A full, astonishing immersion, that answers the question, including historical events and anecdotes illustrated by famous painters who are contextualized in the story. The exhibit will be hosted until October 31 at Palazzo Vecchio, in the Sala d’Arme where the walls will become projection screens that will take hold of the viewer, requested on several sides of the building with images commented in a meaningful text, but deliberately simplified in order to be understood by children and teenagers. “Did you know that the young generation doesn’t go to Uffizi anymore?” – asks Limosani with a sad expression. “I have thought of Magnificent because I am convinced of the importance for the new generation to know about the beauty created in the past and that they will pursue it in the present as a lifeline for the lack of values in the society they live in”. Magnificent will be projected every 30 minutes, spacing the Italian and English version, Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm (last show begins at 7,30 pm). The price of a ticket is 8€ (5€ reduced; free for Firenze Card possessors).

“La Divina Bellezza – Discovering Siena” narrates the highlight points in the history of Siena in a never done before way, namely by projecting scenes, instead of on a normal screen, on the so-called Facciatone, the only element built from a grandiose project to create an enormous Duomo that the survivors of the plague of the years 1348-35 wanted to create to thank the gods. The charm of this unique movie theater is grand, where the screen itself is part of the narration.

The effort to create images of such extraordinary density is also enormous, more than 6 million pixels, to overcome the roughness of the 800 square meters of Facciatone that receives the images and that from time to time, with the help of light games, seems to dismember and reassemble itself again. Until September 30 a 3D video will revive the history of Siena and Duomo, travelling through time and emotions, through myth and beauty. (Information and reservations at 0577-286300).

Non è per stabilire una graduatoria che fomenterebbe antiche rivalità fra Firenze e Siena che si parla in questo articolo di due video, prodigi della tecnologia applicata alle arti, Magnificent di Firenze e La Divina Bellezza di Siena. Seppur scaturite entrambe dall’intento di richiamare in Toscana i visitatori diretti all’Expo di Milano, sono destinate a durare nel tempo più a lungo dell’Esposizione stessa. Si parla di renderle installazioni permanenti, perché hanno scelto di narrare due storie diversissime avvalendosi entrambe di opere d’arte proiettate, in una sintesi che rianima e rivitalizza il significato di quadri, architetture e sculture di secoli lontani.

“Magnificent. L’incredibile storia della bellezza che ha rivoluzionato il mondo”, opera digitale creata da Felice Limosani si avvale, nella versione italiana, della voce recitante del Maestro Andrea Bocelli. Lo stesso sottotitolo fa intuire la tesi perseguita dal Limosani il quale sostiene che “bisogna guidare i giovani ad apprezzare la bellezza”. Quando è nata e cosa rappresenta la Bellezza? Magnificent è un’esperienza visiva e sonora vicina ai nuovi linguaggi espressivi, che utilizza l’animazione d’autore e immerge lo spettatore in un mondo di opere artistiche fruibili con un dettaglio che non è dato di cogliere nei musei o nelle chiese. Una full immersion da capogiro, che risponde alla domanda con l’inserimento di vicende storiche e aneddoti illustrati da dipinti famosi che vengono contestualizzati nel racconto. Sarà ospitata fino al 31 ottobre 2015 a Palazzo Vecchio, nella Sala d’Arme le cui pareti saranno schermi della proiezione che avvolge lo spettatore, sollecitato su più lati dell’edificio da immagini commentate da un testo pieno di significati, ma reso volutamente semplice per essere compreso da bambini e adolescenti. “Lo sa che i giovani non vanno più agli Uffizi?” – mi dice accorato Limosani. “Ho pensato a Magnificent perché sono convinto dell’importanza che le nuove generazioni sappiano della bellezza creata nel passato e che la perseguano nel presente come àncora di salvezza dalla povertà di valori della società in cui si trovano a vivere”. Magnificent viene proiettata ogni 30 minuti, intervallando la versione italiana e quella inglese, dal lunedì alla domenica con orario 10-20 (ultimo spettacolo ore 19.30). “La Divina Bellezza – Discovering Siena” narra i punti salienti della storia di Siena in un modo mai fatto prima, ovvero proiettando le scene, invece che su di un normale schermo, sul cosiddetto Facciatone, l’unico elemento costruito del grandioso progetto di un enorme Duomo che i sopravvissuti allo sterminio della peste negli anni 1348-53 volevano creare in ringraziamento alla divinità. Grande la suggestione di questa sala cinematografica unica, il cui schermo è esso stesso parte integrante della narrazione. E grande lo sforzo di creare immagini di densità straordinaria, oltre 6 milioni di pixel, per superare la scabrosità degli 800 mq del Facciatone che riceve le immagini, e che a tratti, complici i giochi di luce, si smembra e si ricompone. Fino al 30 settembre un video in 3D farà rivivere la storia di Siena e del Duomo, in un viaggio nel tempo e nelle emozioni, nel mito e nella bellezza. (Informazioni e prenotazioni 0577-286300).
