50 days of International Cinema in Florence

The ninth edition of the 50 Days of International Cinema in Florence, will take place from October 29^th to December 13^th at the Odeon cinema. The program, brimming with films and events, is born from a fruitful collaboration between nine Florentine festivals and Fondazione Sistema Toscana that, at critical times such as the present can count on the valuable support of the Regione Toscana and the Municipality of Florence. This year the ideal theme of the event will be “Being Human”: through films that talk about relationships between people of the world, the cinema becomes a way to promote the knowledge of the other and to focus on issues such as the current, dramatic immigration and the marginalization of those who are seen as being different. There are great expectations regarding the success of the event, given the interest of the public in the past years. Over 150 movies will be premiered in Italy (in the original language using subtitles), accompanied by meetings and debates with directors and actors. France Odeon (October 29^th – November 1^st), opens the festival with the best of contemporary French cinema in its seventh edition. Following, Immagini e Suoni del Mondo (November 2^nd to November 4^th), will bring to Florence musical traditions from various countries, and the International Festival of Cinema and Women (November 5^th to November 10^th), a new cinema targeting a female audience. The LGBT universe will star at the Florence Queer Festival (November 11^th to November 17^th), while the Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival (November 18^th to November 22^nd) will tell the story of young contemporary artists, Street Art and great international museums. A not to be missed appointment is the one with the international documentary film cinema at the 56^th edition of the Festival dei Popoli (November 27^th to December 4^th), then the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival (December 5^th to December 10^th), that celebrates 15 years of existence this year. Una Finestra sul Nord (December 11^th to December 13^th) will bring the latest novelties of the Finnish cinema into the Tuscan capital. Premio N.I.C.E. Città di Firenze (December 13^th), now in its 25^th year of existence, will close the event with the screening of the best Italian film chosen by the American public at the end of the emerging cinema overseas festival. The novelty of this edition will be the following four days (November 23^rd to November 26^th) devoted to Il Cinema Ritrovato in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna, presenting great classics in a revised version.

Al via la nona edizione della 50 Giorni di Cinema Internazionale a Firenze, dal 29 ottobre al 13 dicembre al cinema Odeon. Il programma, ricco di film ed eventi, è frutto di una collaborazione sempre più collaudata tra i nove festival fiorentini e la Fondazione Sistema Toscana che può contare, in momenti critici come il presente, sul prezioso supporto della Regione Toscana e del Comune di Firenze. Quest’anno il tema ideale della rassegna sarà “Essere Umani”: attraverso film che raccontano le relazioni tra le persone del mondo, il cinema diventa un modo per favorire la conoscenza dell’altro e porre l’attenzione su problemi drammaticamente attuali quali l’immigrazione e l’emarginazione di coloro che sono visti come diversi. Ci sono grandi aspettative sul successo della manifestazione, dato l’interesse del pubblico negli anni passati. Saranno oltre 150 i film presentati in anteprima italiana (in lingua originale con sottotitoli), accompagnati da incontri e dibattiti con registi e protagonisti. Inaugura la rassegna France Odeon (29 ottobre – 1 novembre), il meglio del cinema francese contemporaneo giunto alla settima edizione. Seguiranno Immagini e Suoni del Mondo (2 – 4 novembre), che porterà a Firenze le tradizioni musicali dai vari Paesi, e Il Festival internazionale di Cinema e Donne (5 – 10 novembre), nuovo cinema tutto al femminile. L’universo LGBT sarà protagonista del Florence Queer Festival (11 – 17 novembre), mentre Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival (18 – 22 novembre) racconterà i giovani artisti contemporanei, la Street Art e i grandi musei internazionali. Imperdibile appuntamento col cinema documentario internazionale per la 56° edizione del Festival dei Popoli (27 novembre – 4 dicembre), poi River to River Florence Indian Film Festival (5 – 10 dicembre) che quest’anno festeggia i 15 anni. Una Finestra sul Nord (11 – 13 dicembre) porterà nel capoluogo toscano le ultime novità del cinema finlandese. Chiuderà il Premio N.I.C.E. Città di Firenze (13 dicembre), giunto al 25° anno, con la proiezione del miglior film italiano scelto dal pubblico americano a conclusione del festival di cinema emergente oltreoceano. La novità di quest’edizione saranno poi i 4 giorni (23 – 26 novembre) dedicati a Il Cinema Ritrovato, grandi classici in versione restaurata, in collaborazione con la Cineteca di Bologna.
