“The key words of the program of Siena, Italian Capital of Culture, have been participation, innovation and sharing. The many initiatives, in fact, were produced by a path of confrontation and mutual stimulation between Institutions and citizens who have voluntarily decided to engage”.

Meetings, workshops and exhibitions of artists from Siena at the Santa Maria della Scala, but also installations of international artists and performances (music, dance and theater) in other places in the city. “We used all over the city, making it an open-air museum, including the suburbs and showing that this program had citizens as primary target, not just tourists. This idea comes directly from the candidacy of Siena as European Capital of Culture 2019. Just look at “Siena smiles” by Clet on the facade of the building public: that idea was even the cover of our candidacy file”.

“Le parole chiave del programma di Siena Capitale italiana della Cultura sono state partecipazione, innovazione e condivisione. Le tante iniziative, infatti, non sono calate dall’alto bensì prodotte da un percorso di confronto e di stimolo reciproco tra le istituzioni e gli operatori cittadini che hanno deciso volontariamente di impegnarsi”.

Così commenta il sindaco di Siena, Bruno Valentini, il percorso condiviso che ha portato alla realizzazione del programma della Settimana del contemporaneo in corso giorni scorsi a Siena. Incontri, workshop, laboratori e mostre di artisti senesi al Santa Maria della Scala, ma anche installazioni di artisti internazionali e performance (musicali, di danza e teatrali) in altri luoghi della città. “Abbiamo utilizzato tutta la città rendendola un museo a cielo aperto, comprese le periferie dimostrando che questa operazione aveva come target primario i cittadini, non solo i turisti. Un’idea questa che viene direttamente dal percorso di candidatura di Siena capitale europea della cultura 2019. Basta vedere “Siena Sorride” di Clet sulla facciata del palazzo pubblico: quell’idea è stata addirittura la copertina del nostro dossier di candidatura”.
