The bastard of Istanbul returns to Rifredi Theatre After the great success of last season
The bastard of Istanbul returns to Rifredi Theater (16th - 28th February 2016, with a break on Monday 22nd), where it debuted in national premiere last year, registering a full house for each of the 12 replicas. After 11 seasons of great and continuing success in the The last harem, the talented Turkish actress Serra Yilmaz takes us on a journey back into the society and culture of her country, torn between tradition and modernity. Serra Yilmaz, born in 1954, begins her theater career in the late seventies after studying in France. In the following decade she makes her debut on the big screen, under the direction of the Turkish masters of cinema.

The performance The bastard of Istanbul, adapted and directed by Angelo Savelli, is adapted from the literary work of Elif Shafak, prominent name in the Turkish literature, who granted the exclusive rights to Pupi and Fresedde. Translated into more than thirty languages and champion of sales worldwide, the novel has in its focus the Armenian issue, told through a family saga of mostly women, in which the fates of Asya (the bastard), rebellious Turkish teenager who lives in Istanbul, intertwines with that of Armanoush, her cousin of the same age, American of Armenian descent who lives in San Francisco. The latter, arrives secretly in Istanbul to rediscover her roots: visiting Asya, her family and her conservative friends, she realizes she doesn’t share at all the ancestral hatred that seems to always counter pose the Armenians from the Turks. In the background there is Istanbul, magical city and a crossroads of peoples.
