On the 20th of January, 2016, the Misericordia di Firenze, on the same day when Saint Sebastian, patron of the Sodalizio, is celebrated, inaugurated the new Museum housed on the fourth floor of the historical site on Piazza Duomo. The museum route runs through 14 rooms, in chronological order, which illustrate, through manuscripts, paintings, coats of arms, furniture, utensils and Florentine handcrafted artifacts, nearly eight centuries of the Florentine Confraternity.

It is a rich display that contains about 80 pieces, some of which were specially restored for the Museum, selected thanks to the precious collaboration of the Soprintendenza per le Belle Arti e Paesaggio di Firenze (Superintendence for Fine Arts and Landscape of Florence).
Some films, in addition to the greeting by the Superintendent Andrea Ceccherini, illustrate the centuries-old history of the Misericordia, its commitment during the many plagues that hit Florence and the Services it currently performs. Among the most significant works of art exposed are the Penitent Saint Jerome by Pietro Annigoni, Christ among the doctors, oil on canvas by Dirck Van Baburen, from the seventeenth century, The Return of the Prodigal Son by Valentin De Boulogne, oil on canvas from the early seventeenth century, a Stational Cross belonging to the Bottega del Giambologna, two pottery pieces (Christ Child and Saint John) from the Bottega Della Robbia from the sixteenth century, two oils on wood by Santi di Tito, Saint Sebastian 1578 to 1580 and Saint Tobias 1578-1580.

The museum is open on Mondays and Fridays from 10.00 a.m to 12.00 p.m and from 3:00 p.m to 5.00 p.m and on Saturdays from 10.00 a.m to 12.00 p.m.
Admission is free but donations are appreciated.
The management of the museum is totally entrusted to the volunteers of the Misericordia di Firenze.

Il 20 gennaio 2016 la Misericordia di Firenze, nel giorno in cui si celebra San Sebastiano, patrono del Sodalizio, ha inaugurato il nuovo Museo allestito al quarto piano della storica sede di Piazza Duomo. Il percorso museale si snoda in 14 sale, cronologicamente ordinate, che raccontano, attraverso manoscritti, quadri, stemmi, arredi, oggetti d’uso e manufatti dell’artigianato fiorentino, i quasi otto secoli di vita dell’Arciconfraternita fiorentina. Si tratta di una ricca esposizione che racchiude circa 80 pezzi, alcuni dei quali appositamente restaurati per il Museo, scelti grazie alla preziosa collaborazione della Soprintendenza per le Belle Arti e Paesaggio di Firenze. Alcuni filmati, oltre al saluto del Provveditore Andrea Ceccherini, illustrano la secolare storia della Misericordia, il suo impegno nel corso delle numerose pestilenze che hanno colpito Firenze e i Servizi che attualmente svolge. Tra le opere più significative il San Girolamo Penitente di Pietro Annigoni, il Cristo fra dottori, olio su tela di Dirck Van Baburen, del XVII sec., il Ritorno del figliuol prodigo di Valentin De Boulogne, olio su tela dell’inizio del XVII sec., una Croce stazionale appartenente alla Bottega del Giambologna, due terracotte (Gesù Bambino e San Giovannino) della Bottega Della Robbia del XVI sec., due oli su tavola di Santi di Tito, San Sebastiano 1578 – 1580 e San Tobia 1578 – 1580.

Il Museo è aperto il lunedì e il venerdì dalle 10.00 alle 12.00 e dalle 15.00 alle 17.00, mentre il sabato dalle 10.00 alle 12.00.
L’ingresso è gratuito ma è gradita un’offerta.
La gestione dello spazio è totalmente affidata ai volontari della Misericordia di Firenze.
