Steven Wilson, guitarist and instrumentalist, the brains and producer of the English band Porcupine Tree, returns to Italy on two much awaited dates (April 26 in Trieste and April 27 in Florence). The Florentine concert will be held at Obihall (starting 9 pm). On stage, Wilson will perform songs from his latest solo album Hand. Cannot. Erase, released in February of last year.
The album represents a concept album, inspired from the incredible story of Joyce Carol Vincent, a thirty-eight year old British woman, found dead in her apartment three years after her death: no one has searched for her during all that time. The main theme of the album is therefore the estrangement caused by a society of individuals, which paradoxically are more and more “connected”, but also more and more alone and invisible. Born in 1967, Wilson has signed ten studio recorded albums and several live and collective records with the Porcupine Tree.
Their official recognition occurs in 1992, in the wake of the new British progressive rock, with On The Sunday Of Life, a double album infused with psychedelic avant-garde music, which frames them immediately as the heirs of Pink Floyd. Furthermore, the versatile British musician realizes and takes part over the years in many other projects such as No-Man, Blackfield, I.E.M. and Bass Communion. In between producing and mixing, he collaborates, among others, with bands such as Opeth, Orphaned Land, and Anathema. Meanwhile, his creativity is endless, and it seems to draw even more vitality from his side projects, thus also finding room for his solo career, where he maintains the taste for experimentation and the psychedelic atmospheres. In 2008 he releases his first album Insurgentes (title that refers to Avenida de Los Insurgentes, the address of the studio in Mexico City where the musician has recorded most of the material). The album presented in Florence, Hand. Cannot. Erase, is his fourth solo album.

Il concerto fiorentino si terrà all’Obihall (inizio ore 21). Sul palco Wilson eseguirà i brani del suo ultimo album da solista Hand. Cannot. Erase, uscito a febbraio dello scorso anno.
Il disco è un concept album ispirato all’incredibile storia di Joyce Carol Vincent, una trentottenne inglese trovata senza vita nel proprio appartamento a tre anni di distanza dalla morte: per tutto quel tempo nessuno l’aveva cercata. Tema centrale dell’album è quindi l’alienazione causata da una società di individui paradossalmente sempre più “connessi”, ma sempre più soli e invisibili. Classe 1967, Wilson con i Porcupine Tree ha firmato dieci album in studio e molteplici dischi live e raccolte.
Il loro exploit ufficiale avviene nel 1992, nel solco del nuovo progressive rock britannico, con On The Sunday Of Life, album doppio intriso di musica psichedelica d’avanguardia, che li fa da subito considerare come gli eredi dei Pink Floyd. Inoltre, negli anni, il poliedrico musicista inglese realizza e prende parte a molti altri progetti, come No-Man, Blackfield, I.E.M. e Bass Communion. Tra produzione e mixaggio, collabora, tra gli altri, con gruppi come Opeth, Orphaned Land e Anathema. Nel frattempo la sua vena creativa non si esaurisce, ma sembra anzi attingere ulteriore linfa vitale dai progetti collaterali, trovando così spazio anche per la carriera solista, in cui mantiene il gusto per la sperimentazione e le atmosfere psichedeliche. Nel 2008 pubblica il suo primo album, Insurgentes (titolo che si riferisce a Avenida De Los Insurgentes, indirizzo dello studio a Città del Messico dove il musicista ha registrato la maggior parte del materiale). Hand. Cannot. Erase, che verrà presentato a Firenze, è il suo quarto album personale.
