Culture is an antidote against violence Art and culture are the most efficient means in favor of integration of people

We hadn’t even dried our tears yet because of the terrible tragedy that caused the accidental death of the thirteen Erasmus students in Spain, out of the seven Italian girls, three were studying in Florence, that in only a matter of hours, heartbreaking images have arrived from Brussels, the heart of Europe, explosions and even more deaths at the airport and at the subway. Different events, of course, but that have marked everyone’s lives in just a few hours. The dismay shook the entire world. In the face of these horrible events, we can only grow our heartfelt commitment to the culture of dialogue and respect.

Culture is an antidote against violence. In the light of so many events that characterize our troubled era, art and culture are the answer, the common and universal language, the most efficient means in favor of communication, aggregation and integration of people, to also reach the young generation, because since forever this is what gives value to the identities and different characteristics of peoples. Feelings that only the cultural language knows how to stir in each of us, are the bases to build dialogue and confrontation, for a better harmony among peoples, in a tireless search of peace. In this light, Florence, the cradle of Renaissance, is also a candidate as contemporary capital, for a new cultural dimension of Florence that develops well the focus on the modern, launched by Mayor Dario Nardella. To be contemporary means to dialogue, to integrate the cultural identity with multiculturalism, to create opportunities of exchange, of contamination. Necessary elements to overcome fear and favor communication between peoples and among different generations. Culture is and continues to be, the center of our administrative action, with important collaborations between the most prestigious local institutions, such as Teatro dell’Opera di Firenze, Teatro della Pergola, with the next center dedicated to Maestro Zefirelli. Moreover, with a rich program in exhibits and events that brings works of modern artists in the city, such as those of Jan Fabre, and festivals such as Estate Fiorentina that will animate our city until next October and that speak to Florence about the world and to the world about Florence, about its incredible history, its lifestyle.

Non avevamo ancora asciugato le lacrime per l’incredibile tragedia che in Spagna ha visto morire in un incidente tredici giovani studentesse Erasmus, delle sette ragazze italiane tre studiavano a Firenze, che a distanza di poche ore sono arrivate immagini strazianti da Bruxelles nel cuore dell’Europa, esplosioni e ancora tanti morti all’aereoporto e in metropolitana. Fatti diversi certo, ma che in poche ore hanno segnato tutti. Lo sgomento ha pervaso tutto il mondo. E davanti a questi fatti terribili, non possiamo che aumentare il nostro incondizionato impegno alla cultura del dialogo e del rispetto. La Cultura è antidoto contro la violenza. Alla luce dei tanti eventi che caratterizzano la nostra travagliata epoca, l’arte e la cultura sono la risposta, il linguaggio comune ed universale, il mezzo più efficace per favorire la comunicazione, l’aggregazione e l’integrazione fra le persone, per arrivare anche ai più giovani perché da sempre valorizza le identità e le differenti caratteristiche dei popoli. Le emozioni che solo il linguaggio culturale sa suscitare in ognuno di noi, sono le basi per costruire il dialogo ed il confronto, per una migliore armonia tra i popoli, per un’instancabile ricerca della pace.
Con questo spirito Firenze, culla del Rinascimento, si candida anche quale capitale del contemporaneo, per una rinnovata dimensione culturale di Firenze che sviluppa bene il focus sul moderno lanciato proprio dal sindaco Dario Nardella. Essere contemporanei significa dialogare, integrare l’identità culturale con il multiculturalismo, creare occasioni di scambio, di contaminazione.
Elementi necessari per vincere la paura e favorire il dialogo fra i popoli e fra differenti generazioni. La cultura è, e continua ad essere, al centro della nostra azione amministrativa, con sinergie importanti fra le più prestigiose istituzioni locali quali il Teatro dell’Opera di Firenze, il Teatro della Pergola, il prossimo polo dedicato al Maestro Zeffirelli. E ancora con un cartellone ricco di mostre ed eventi che portano in città opere di artisti moderni, come quella di Jan Fabre, e festival come l’Estate Fiorentina che animerà fino al prossimo ottobre la nostra città e che raccontano il mondo a Firenze e Firenze al mondo, la sua meravigliosa storia, il suo stile di vita.
