Il Popolo del Blues Ogni domenica alle 15.30 su Controradio

The dream was fulfilled in 1995. Ernesto de Pascale, historical voice of the Rai Stereonotte transmission, used the title of the book by LeRoi Jones to give life to a radio program dedicated to blues. The first step of The People of Blues was made by the Florentine broadcaster Controradio. Then the collaboration with the musical festival, the record label, the newspaper and website was born. All in the name of a great passion for music (blues has added interest for other genres as well) and an independence of design and production of various initiatives.

Five years since the passing of de Pascale, The People of Blues continues its activities acting as a reality of the city always focused further than the Florentine walls. Since the radio broadcast, transmitted every Sunday at 3, 30 pm on Controradio, the microphone hosts the voices of Fabrizio Berti, Giulia Nuti and Michele Manzotti. Moreover, Berti founded a “Jug Band” to recover the original blues repertoire. The website refers to the independent music market, together with reviews and interviews, while the magazine exists for two years, the only Italian one invited to the BBC Folk Awards in the United Kingdom. Finally, the recording catalogue, besides having new Italian blues titles, will soon see the reissue of “The great rhythm of the black trains”, a disc from 1998 on which Pascale played together with renowned names of blues such as Dr. John and Memphis Horns.

Il sogno fu realizzato nel 1995. Ernesto de Pascale, voce storica della trasmissione Rai Stereonotte, utilizzò il titolo del libro di LeRoi Jones per dare vita a un programma radio dedicato al blues. I primi passi de Il Popolo del Blues furono quindi realizzati all’interno dell’emittente fiorentina Controradio. Poi nacque la collaborazione con i festival musicali, l’etichetta discografica, la testata giornalistica, il sito internet. Tutto nel segno della grande passione per la musica (al blues si è aggiunto l’interesse per altri generi) e dell’indipendenza nell’ideazione e nella produzione delle varie iniziative. A cinque anni dalla scomparsa di Ernesto de Pascale, Il Popolo del Blues continua l’attività ponendosi come realtà cittadina da sempre rivolta al di là delle mura fiorentine.

A partire dalla trasmissione radio che ogni domenica alle 15.30 su Controradio vede al microfono Fabrizio Berti, Giulia Nuti e Michele Manzotti. Berti inoltre ha fondato una “Jug band” per recuperare il repertorio blues originario. Il sito è rivolto alla discografia indipendente con recensioni e interviste, mentre la testata è da due anni l’unica italiana invitata ai Bbc Folk Awards nel Regno Unito. Infine il catalogo discografico, oltre ad avere nuovi titoli di blues italiano, vedrà presto la ristampa de “Il grande ritmo dei treni neri”, disco del 1988 dove de Pascale suonò insieme a nomi illustri del blues come Dr. John e Memphis Horns.
