Strolling in the center of Florence, until the 15th May, you will find yourself suddenly immersed in a luxurious garden, an unexpected green oasis. Set right in the heart of the Uffizi Gallery’ courtyard, it is almost impossible to miss it! To the visitor, it may appear to be another successful urban design experiment, an example of landscape architecture or even an installation. In reality, it is a historical commemoration of the annual Flower Exhibit, begun in Florence in 1855 which continues to the present day.

In the past it was traditionally set up in the same Piazza degli Uffizi. Thanks to the Tuscan Horticultural Society, this annual spring show revives the Horticultural Garden from Via Vittorio Emanuele II. This represents a unique occasion to admire a fascinating scenography in one of the most suggestive places in Florence. Spring is a time of renewal which equally applies to Florence Is You! Those of you who have followed us over the years will notice the difference. Our newspaper was born just over two years ago, with few resources but with so much willpower and love for this profession. It was originally created as a bilingual publication in Italian and English, yet in these last few months we are determined to become all the more inclusive, with multilingual articles which influences our widening readership including visitors from Russia and China and reserving some more news that we are preparing for you. If you are wondering why, the answer is simple: this renewed editorial line is the natural choice of any publication. By responding to our reader’s demands, an increasingly diverse and international audience, we make ourselves all the more relevant to their lives. From our first introduction in Florence we become a reliable journal which narrates and informs their everyday lives back home. We intend to live up to their expectations by doing what we do best, as the most practical way to thank them for their continuing affection and support. You will also notice more space devoted to illustrations: I encourage you to focus your attention on the works of Roberta Briatico, Daria Derakhshan, Donatella Isola, Michele Isola. Dulcis in fundo is a new space dedicated to fiction that is inaugurated by a short story by Simone Innocenti. Simone is a dear friend and a person whom I admire, journalist for Corriere Fiorentino, who made his debut as a writer here and who will present his first novel Puntazza, Erudita Publishing, in May. On a very personal note, this issue of Florence Is You is dedicated to my aunt, Iolanda, wherever she is for reasons known only to her.

Fino al 15 maggio, passeggiando in centro a Firenze, vi ritroverete all’improvviso immersi in un lussureggiante giardino, un’oasi verde inaspettata, ed è impossibile che non lo notiate perché è stato allestito proprio nel piazzale degli Uffizi! Potrebbe sembrare solo un esperimento ben riuscito di arredamento urbano, un esempio di architettura del paesaggio o un’istallazione, ma in realtà assume anche il valore della rievocazione storica. In passato la Mostra dei Fiori, nata a Firenze nel 1855 grazie alla Società Toscana di Orticultura e che ogni primavera, ancora oggi, anima il Giardino dell’Orticoltura in Via Vittorio Emanuele II, era tradizionalmente allestita proprio nel piazzale degli Uffizi. Rappresenta un’occasione unica per ammirare una scenografia affascinante in uno dei luoghi più suggestivi di Firenze. Primavera tempo di rinnovamento, anche per Florence is You, e chi ci segue da tempo noterà le differenze. Il nostro giornale è nato poco più di due anni fa, con pochi mezzi ma tanta volontà e amore per questa professione, ed è nato bilingue, italiano-inglese; negli ultimi mesi ci stiamo rinnovando, ovvero saremo sempre più multilingue, incrementando il cinese, introducendo la lingua russa e riservandovi ancora alcune novità che stiamo preparando per voi. Se vi chiedete il perché, la risposta è semplice: questa rinnovata linea editoriale ci è sembrata una scelta naturale che risponde alle richieste dei nostri lettori, che formano un pubblico sempre più eterogeneo, sempre più internazionale e che dopo averci conosciuto qui a Firenze, richiede di ricevere il giornale anche nei paesi di appartenenza. E noi intendiamo essere all’altezza delle loro aspettative perché fare al meglio quello che facciamo è il modo più concreto per ringraziarli del loro sostegno ed affetto. Noterete anche molto più spazio dedicato alle illustrazioni: vi invito a dedicare la vostra attenzione ai lavori di Roberta Briatico, Daria Derakhshan, Donatella Isola, Michele Isola.
Dulcis in fundo un nuovo spazio dedicato alla narrativa che è inaugurato da un racconto breve di Simone Innocenti. Simone è un amico carissimo ed una persona che stimo, giornalista del Corriere Fiorentino, che qui esordisce come scrittore e che a maggio presenterà il suo primo romanzo, Puntazza, Erudita Editore. Una nota molto personale, questo numero di Florence is You è dedicato alla mia zia, Iolanda, ovunque si trovi, per i motivi che Lei conosce.
