Peter Brook charms Florence with the ancient stories of Mahābhārata
Peter Brook, who has recently turned 90 years old, is one of the great figures of contemporary theater. With Battlefield returns Mahābhārata, the largest epic poem, not only in India but in the entire literary world, after its historic staging that shook the Avignon Festival in 1985. “The linguistic and imagery richness in the millennial epic tale of Mahābhārata”, write Peter Brook, Jean-Claude Carrière, Marie-Hélène Estienne, authors of the text, “its stories still surprising to this day, offer the opportunity to revive on stage fascinations that although belonging to the past, they also reflect the harsh and countless conflicts that tears our world apart”.
