Having a pet comes with many responsibilities, among them, choosing what is best for your best friend; especially when picking out remedies for fleas, ticks and other parasites it can be very hard to know what is the right choice. The products offered on the market are many and, in certain situations, these products may have some drawbacks and can also cause problems.

The first choice is whether to buy a chemical or a natural product.
Chemicals products: they have an immediate action and are the most effective method especially on subjects already infected, for example, by fleas or ticks. Intolerance to the active substance in them happens in very few cases and when it does it is usually in: puppies, pregnant or lactating females, etc…
Natural products: they are very effective, although they do take longer to eliminate the parasites. Yet, they also offer a method that has no adverse effect on our animals, our children, and the environment.
Pesticides are available in:
Spot-on: they are liquid and come in small vials, or pipettes and should be applied between the shoulder blades just behind the neck; some are also applied along the spine and, of course, directly on the skin.
Collar: the active ingredients are distributed throughout the animal’s body on the lipid layer of the skin, and like the spot-on solution, parasites are eliminated after coming into contact with the skin.
Lotion Sprays: they create a barrier effect and should be sprayed directly on the fur, much more used in puppies and in situations when support to other pesticides is required. There are also sprays that can be used on the pet’s bed and home environment, to disinfect and also protect the places where our four-legged friends live at.
Supplements: you can also find supplements made from garlic in palatable tablet form which can be administered to the dog daily. Once you make your selection, the frequency and the method of application will vary depending on the environment where the animal lives, its lifestyle and its habits. Quando abbiamo un animale domestico le responsabilità sono molte, e tra queste anche
saper scegliere il meglio per lui, anche nell’ambito degli antiparassitari perché non sempre è facile fare la scelta giusta. I prodotti offerti in commercio sono tanti e, in determinate situazioni, i prodotti possono avere degli svantaggi e possono anche causare problemi.
La prima scelta da fare è se acquistare antiparassitari chimici o naturali.
I prodotti chimici: hanno un’azione immediata e risultano il metodo più efficace in particolar modo con soggetti già infestati, ad esempio da pulci o zecche. In pochissimi casi si riscontra un’intolleranza ai principi attivi: cuccioli, femmine in gestazione o in lattazione, ecc…
I prodotti naturali: sono molto efficaci e richiedono tempi maggiori per eliminare i parassiti ma è comunque un metodo che non ha nessun effetto nocivo per i nostri animali, per i nostri bambini e per l’ambiente.

Collare: i principi attivi si distribuiscono su tutto il corpo dell’animale nello strato lipidico della pelle e come per gli spot-on, i parassiti vengono eliminati dopo essere venuti a contatto con la cute.

Lozioni Spray: effetto barriera da spruzzare direttamente sul pelo, molto utilizzato nei cuccioli ed in tutte quelle situazioni che richiedono un supporto ad altri antiparassitari. Esistono anche lozioni da utilizzare su cucce e ambienti domestici, in modo da disinfestare e proteggere anche i luoghi dove vivono i nostri amici a quatto zampe.
Integratori: si possono trovare anche alimenti complementari a base di aglio, in tavolette appetibili da somministrare al cane quotidianamente. Una volta effettuata la scelta, la frequenza e la modalità di applicazione dei prodotti varia in base all’ambiente in cui vive l’animale, al suo stile di vita, alle sue abitudini.
