Tuscany celebrates its own Independence
A hundred and fifty-seven years ago, on April 27, 1859, the city of Florence experienced its own “peaceful revolution” taking back the Capital from the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, under Leopoldo II of Lorraine; and forming a provisory government which ruled Florence and Tuscany for almost a year, contributing to the eventual unification of Italy. Bartolommei-Buschetti Palace, in via Lambertesca n.11, is said to be the birthplace of the reform, from where the Marquise Ferdinando Bartolommei, paved the way of the “revolution without bloodshed” and the subsequent ousting of Leopoldo II from the city.
