The meeting between Herbert Percy Horne (1864 – 1916) and Florence was so astonishing that it made him to move to the city permanently in 1905. In the eighteen century, the city already had a significant English community and the English love for Florence strengthened again in the nineteenth century with even Queen Victoria visiting it a few times. Here resided many British citizens: without a doubt the most famous of which was the wealthy Frederick Stibbert who filled his house with illustrious collections of military weapons from all over the world and objects of decorative art.
