San Martino a Mensola When simplicity is… the great beauty
It is one of the thousands of hidden gems in the Tuscan countryside. In fact, the church which is in Fiesole, just a step away from Florence, is an authentic treasure chest with an ancient history. Its renaissance appearance remained mostly intact from the mid-fifteen century, but the building was constructed on the pre-existing temple which dated back at least 600 years and which was already dedicated to Saint Martino. The restoration works were started in IX century by Saint Andrea di Scozia (originally Irish), who wanted to recover an abandoned church, which by then was in ruins.
