La sicurezza stradale è stato ed è uno dei maggiori obbiettivi delle ultime amministrazioni cittadine, troppi gli incidenti stradali, purtroppo spesso mortali e con giovanissime vittime, che si sono registrati in città.

L’attività di prevenzione e sanzione dei comportamenti scorretti ha portato ad una significativa riduzione degli incidenti più gravi. La Fondazione Matteo Ciappi dal 2017 è fra le associazioni più attive in città al fine di promuovere il volontariato e, in particolare, legate al miglioramento della sicurezza stradale. Nata con lo scopo di raccontare la vita e gli ideali di Matteo, vittima a soli ventisette anni di un incidente stradale mentre guidava il suo scooter, l’associazione vuole mantenere vivi e diffondere gli ideali di solidarietà e impegno sociale in cui Matteo credeva fermamente. Anche nel momento del dolore la generosità dei genitori, Daniela e Andrea, ci è stata d’esempio: con un gesto di grande altruismo hanno donato i suoi organi. Un gesto d’amore infinito, grazie a Matteo altre persone hanno avuto un’altra occasione di vita.

Fin da subito l’impegno dell’associazione è stato quello di sollecitare l’amministrazione comunale affinché all’incrocio teatro del sinistro mortale fosse installata una telecamera per la rilevazione delle infrazioni. Il 23 marzo 2019, giorno del compleanno di Matteo, questa telecamera sarà simbolicamente inaugurata al fine di garantire la sicurezza stradale e scongiurare che in futuro simili tragedie si ripetano. Inoltre a Palazzo Vecchio si terrà un convegno dal titolo “Quinto: non passare con il rosso” alla presenza dell’Assessore Federico Gianassi, della Commissione Cultura e Sport che presiedo, delle associazioni e delle istituzioni impegnate sul territorio per promuovere il rispetto delle norme del Codice della Strada e sottolineare il tema dell’eticità del comportamento alla guida. È un dolore troppo grande la distruzione di così tante vite umane sulle nostre strade. Sarà anche l’occasione per lanciare il secondo concorso fotografico “Memorial Matteo Ciappi”: Matteo amava molto il reportage e nel 2013 fu ingaggiato come fotoreporter dalla Carovana del Giro e seguì il 96° Giro d’Italia. La fotografia era una delle sue grandi passioni e la praticava con successo; un’arte che mette in linea occhi, cervello e cuore, esattamente quello che ognuno di noi deve tenere sempre presente alla guida, nel rispetto e per la sicurezza degli altri.

The Memorial Matteo Ciappi Photo Competition

Road traffic safety has been – and still is – one of the main goals of recent political administrations. Far too many accidents have been recorded in the city, sadly often fatal and with very young victims. Prevention methods and sanctions for deviant behaviour have led to a significant reduction of more severe accidents. Since 2017, the Matteo Ciappi Foundation is among the most active associations in the city for the promotion of volunteer work, and in particular that connected to the improvement of road traffic safety. Established with the aim of keeping alive the life and the ideals of Matteo, a victim of a lethal accident at just twenty-seven years of age while he was driving his scooter, the association aims to spread and continue the values of solidarity and social efforts that Matteo strongly believed in.

Even through the pain, the generosity of his parents, Daniela and Andrea, has always been an example for us: with a gesture of great altruism, they donated Matteo’s organs. An act of infinite love, and thanks to Matteo other people were given a second chance at life. Since the very start, the association focused its efforts on soliciting the city administration to install a camera to monitor any irregularities occurring at the crossroads that proved to be fatal for Matteo. On March 23 2019, on the day of Matteo’s birthday, there will be a symbolic inauguration of such camera, which will help to guarantee road safety and avert similar episodes to happen again. Furthermore, the conference “Quinto: don’t pass with the red light” will be held in Palazzo Vecchio, in the presence of Councillor Federico Gianassi, the Culture and Sport Committee I preside, the associations and the institutions that are involved on a local level in the promotion of the respect of the traffic code and norms to underline the concept of ethical driving. The loss of so many lives on our streets is a pain too heavy to bear. At the same time, the second “Memorial Matteo Ciappi” photo competition will be launched. Matteo loved photography, and in 2013 he was even hired as a photo reporter by the Caravan of the “Giro” and followed the 96th Giro d’Italia. He had a strong passion for photography, which he practiced with great success; an art that aligns our eyes with our brain and heart, which is exactly what we should always keep in mind when sitting behind a steering wheel, for the safety and the respect of others.
