Da Venerdì 11 Dicembre arriva sulla piattaforma web del Cinema Odeon di Firenze, MioCinema, la rassegna MERRY CINEMA, una selezione speciale di film pensata appositamente per i giorni delle festività natalizie! Una selezione di commedie di qualità, dirette da grandi registi, sono il regalo che l’Odeon ha pensato di fare al suo pubblico. Lo spirito del Natale, in un anno particolare e difficile come quello che stiamo vivendo, non deve venir meno ed è con questo intento che sono stati selezionati dei titoli che trasmettano grandi emozioni regalando spensieratezza, risate e commozione. Il Natale è anche il periodo del cinema, attendiamo di ritrovarci all’Odeon e nelle sale cinematografiche vedendo e rivedendo splendidi film firmati da registi come Wes Anderson, Steven Soderbergh, Ang Lee, Stephen Frears e tanti altri.

Juliet Naked – Tutta un’altra musica di Jesse Peretz(2018): Duncan e Annie vivono una relazione abitudinaria da 15 anni: lui è ossessionato da un musicista ritiratosi misteriosamente dalle scene, Tucker Crowe, mentre lei vorrebbe un figlio ma non osa insistere. Quando emerge un album inedito di Crowe e il musicista entra di fatto nelle loro vite, le crepe tra i due diventano insanabili

La truffa dei Logan di Steven Soderbergh (2017): Jimmy Logan, ex quarterback con una gamba offesa, e Clyde Logan, veterano dell’Iraq senza un braccio, decidono di organizzare una rapina. Separato dalla consorte e licenziato dal boss l’uno, single con pub l’altro, i Logan vivono nell’America rurale, collezionano una sfortuna eterna e perpetuano una maledizione familiare. Ma quella superstizione, esemplificata dal corso disastroso delle loro esistenze, diventa la loro chance: una buona copertura (chi accuserebbe mai due storpi?) e una buona occasione (giunti a questo punto, i Logan non hanno niente da perdere).

Florence di Stephen Frears (2016): New York, 1944. Florence Foster Jenkins è una melomane facoltosa che si crede dotata per il canto. Fiaccata da una malattia che cova dietro le perle e nella penombra della sua stanza, Florence decide di perfezionare il suo ‘talento’ con un maestro compiacente. Perché marito ed entourage hanno deciso di tacitare la sua mediocrità. Cantare per Florence non è un capriccio ma una terapia che le permette di vivere pienamente, ricacciando i fantasmi. Ma quello che doveva essere un trastullo colto per apprendere il repertorio classico, diventa il desiderio incontenibile di trovare un palcoscenico. Maestro e consorte si prestano al gioco e l’accompagnano, uno al piano, l’altro in attesa dietro le quinte, sulle tavole celebri della Carnegie Hall. Nella speranza che il concerto non volga in fiasco.

Sing Street di John Carney (2016): Conor vive nella Dublino di metà anni ’80, ha 16 anni e un talento nella scrittura di canzoni. L’incontro con l’aspirante modella Raphina, di cui s’innamora perdutamente, lo spinge a fondare una pop band per attirare la ragazza come attrice di videoclip. Nel frattempo il matrimonio dei genitori va in frantumi: saranno la musica, l’amore e l’inossidabile rapporto col fratello maggiore a dare al ragazzo un coraggio che non credeva possibile.

 

È arrivata mia figlia di Anna Muylaert (2015): Val lavora come cameriera a tempo pieno nella villa di una famiglia bene di San Paolo. Sono più di dieci anni che non vede la figlia Jessica, che ha affidato ad una parente nel Nord del paese. Un giorno, però, la ragazza si presenta in città per l’esame di ammissione alla facoltà di architettura. Il suo ingresso nella casa di Donna Barbara, del marito e del figlio, suo coetaneo, sovverte ogni regola non scritta di comportamento e mette sua madre di fronte alle domande che non si è mai posta.

Gigolò per caso di John Turturro (2013): Fioravante è un gentiluomo di mezza età che svolge svariate mansioni. Elettricista, idraulico, artista floreale e in tempi di magra gigolò, Fioravante attrae le donne con la sua dignità e la sua costanza. Factotum cortese passeggia tra i borough di New York in compagnia di Murray, amico di vecchia data che gli procura i contatti con donne in cerca di avventure erotiche o carezze amorevoli. Condiviso da due ricche signore di Park Avenue, Fioravante le ascolta e le celebra in lunghe sedute in cui sfoggia la naturale sensibilità, l’arte della danza e del massaggio. Se Murray tiene il conto degli affari, Fioravante non ha messo in conto di innamorarsi. Incontrata Avigal, giovane vedova di un Rabbino, il nostro cede armi e cuore. Contro di lui si solleva una comunità chassidica e Dovi, ebreo ortodosso invaghito da sempre di Avigal. Tra erotismo ed ebraismo, Fioravante muoverà nella vita e nei sentimenti con la delicatezza delle sue composizioni floreali.

Moonrise Kingdom di Wes Anderson (2012): Estate 1965. Su un’isola del New England vive la dodicenne Suzy, preadolescente incompresa dai genitori. Sulla stessa isola si trova in campeggio scout il coetaneo Sam, orfano affidato a una famiglia che lo considera troppo ‘difficile’ per continuare ad occuparsene. I due si sono conosciuti casualmente, si sono innamorati e hanno deciso di fuggire insieme seguendo un antico sentiero tracciato dai nativi nei boschi. Gli adulti, ivi compreso lo sceriffo Sharp, si mettono alla loro ricerca anche perché è in arrivo una devastante tempesta.

Il mio miglior amico di Salvatore Allocca (2012): François (Daniel Auteuil) è un antiquario, ha una socia nel business, e ha quindici appuntamenti al giorno. Ha un solo problema: non ha un amico. Per provare il contrario fa una scommessa: entro dieci giorni dovrà presentare alla sua socia il suo migliore amico.

Racconto di Natale di Arnaud Desplechin (2008): Abel e Junon Vuillard avevano due figli: Joseph ed Elizabeth. Joseph si ammalò e si rese necessario un trapianto di midollo osseo. Né i genitori né Elizabeth erano compatibili. Abel e Junon decisero allora di mettere al mondo un altro figlio sperando nella possibilità di una donazione. Ma anche il piccolo Henri non era compatibile e Joseph morì a 7 anni. Con la nascita del quarto figlio, Ivan, progressivamente il lutto per la perdita di Joseph sembrò essere rielaborato. Anni dopo Elizabeth, scrittrice teatrale di successo aiutò il fratello Henri, sull’orlo della bancarotta, ma a un patto: non avrebbe dovuto mai più presentarsi davanti a lei. Sono trascorsi altri anni e si avvicina il Natale, Junon apprende di essere stata colpita dallo stesso male di Joseph. Va cercato un donatore in famiglia: uno potrebbe essere Paul, il tormentato figlio adolescente di Elizabeth e l’altro proprio Henri che ha fatto la sua ricomparsa (invitato da Paul) insieme alla sua compagna del momento, l’ebrea Faunia. La famiglia si ritrova nella città di origine, Roubaix, ed Henri dovrà decidere se mettersi a disposizione per un trapianto che potrebbe salvare (ma anche uccidere) una madre che non ha mai amato.

Banchetto di nozze di Ang Lee (1993): Il taiwanese Wai-tung, manager di successo, vive da anni a New York con il compagno Simon nascondendo la propria omosessualità ai genitori: questi ultimi, benché a chilometri di distanza, tentano di combinare il matrimonio di Wai-tung, ma lui rifiuta costantemente. Un giorno Simon pensa di simulare un matrimonio di convenienza tra Wai-tung e la sua affittuaria Wei-wei per far felici i genitori di Wai-tung, ma questi ultimi decidono di volare a New York per conoscere la nuora, obbligando i tre a un’improbabile messinscena.

On Odeon’s web platform, we find the Christmas review MERRY CINEMA

The Christmas proposal of the historic Florentine room for its public. On the platform MioCinema, are the great author comedies.

 From Friday the 11th of December, MioCinema, the MERRY CINEMA review, will be on all online platforms of Florence’s Odeon Cinema. The latter is a special selection of films, re-imagined especially of Christmas festivities. A selection of quality comedies, directed by great directors, are Odeon’s present to its public. Christmas spirit, in a particularly difficult year such as the one we are currently living through, shall not be less decisive than usual: with this intent, specific film titles have been selected, and will be transmitted with great emotions, gifting light-heartedness, laughter and emotion. Christmas is a time for cinema, which we find in Oden’s rooms and in cinematographic lounges, reviewing splendid films signed by directors such as Wes Anderson, Steven Soderbergh, Ang Lee, Stephen Frears and many others. The following are the titles of the review:

Juliet Naked – A completely other music by Jesse Peretz (2018): Duncan and Annie live a habitual relationship for fifteen years: he is obsessed by a musician who mysteriously disappeared from the world scenes, Tucker Crowe, whilst she would like a son yet does not dare to insist for that to occur. When an inedited album by Crowe emerges and the musician inevitably enters in their life, the cracks between the two become incurable.

The Logan scam by Steven Soderbergh (2017): Jimmy Logan, previous quarterback with a broken leg and Clyde Logan, an Iraqi veteran without an arm, decide to organize a robbery. As one is separated from his consort and fired by his boss, whilst the other is single with a pub, the Logans live in rural America, inheriting an eternal bad luck and perpetuating a familiar curse. Yet, that superstition which is exemplified throughout the disastrous pattern of their existence, becomes their chance: a good coverage (who would ever accuse two cripples?), and a good opportunity (once at this point, the Logans have nothing more to lose).

Florence, by Stephens Frears (2016): New York, 1944. Florence Foster Jenkins is a wealthy melomaniac who believes to have a gift for singing. Weakened by a sickness which she develops in the dim light of her room, Florence decides to perfectionate her “talent” with a complacent master, as her husband and entourage decided to buy off her mediocrity. Singing, for Florence, is not a caprice but rather a therapy, allowing her to live fully, chasing away her ghosts. Yet, what should have been a cultured man to teach her the classical repertoire, quickly becomes an irrepressible desire to find a scene for herself. Her master and spouse play her game and accompany her, one at the piano, the other behind the scenes, to the famous tables of Carnegie Hall. This, hoping for the concert not to be a fiasco.

Sing Street, by John Carney (2016): Conor lives in a mid-eighties Dublin. He is already sixteen and has a talent for song writing. His encounter with the aspirant model Raphina, whom he desperately falls in love with, pushes him to fund a pop band in order to get the girl as an actress for his video clip. In the meanwhile, his parents’ weeding shatters: in this film, the boy’s incredible bravery will emerge from music, love and a rustproof relationship with his older brother.

My daughter arrived, by Anna Muylaert (2015): Val works as a full-time waitress in a proper family’s villa in San Paolo. It has been more than ten years that she has not seen her daughter, Jessica, whom she has entrusted to a relative in the North of the country. Yet, one day, the girl shows up in the city for her admission exam to the faculty of architecture. Her entrance in Donna Barbara, her husband and her son’s house, who after all is her peer, subverts all behaviour rules and places her mother in front of questions which she had never asked herself.

Gigolo by chance, by John Turturro (2013): Fioravante is a mid-aged gentleman, who performs various tasks. He is an electrician, a plumber, a floral artist and when times get difficult, he is a gigolo. Indeed, Fioravante attracts women with his dignity and constancy. Factotum and courteous, he wanders around New York’s borough in Murray’s company, an old friend provides him women’s contacts who are looking for erotic adventures or friendly caresses. Shared between two rich Park Avenue women, Fioravante listens to them and charms them in long sessions within which he flaunts his natural sensibility, the art of massage and that of dance. Whilst Murray keeps track of the affairs and its financials, Fioravanti never considered that he may fall in love. When he meets Avigal, a young rabbi’s widow, he yields his arms and heart. Yet, a community of Hasidic and Dovi, an Orthodox Jew always enamoured of Avigail, stands against him. Between erotism and Judaism, Fioravante will go forward in his life and emotions with delicacy and floral compositions.

Moonrise Kingdom, by Wes Anderson (2012): Summer 1965. On an island in New England, lives pre-adolescent twelve-year old Suzy, ununderstood by her parents. On the same island, her peer Sam is camping. Sam is an orphan entrusted to a family who considers him too “difficult” to keep taking care of him. These two characters meet casually, they fall in love and they decide to run away together following an ancient path traced by natives in the woods. The adults, and Sheriff Sharp, start looking for them as a devastating storm is about to arrive.

The best friend, by Salvatore Alloca (2012): François (Daniel Auteuil) is an antiquarian, he has a business partner and fifteen appointments a day. He only has one problem: he does not have a single friend. In order to try and prove the opposite, he makes a bet: within ten days, he will have to introduce to his best friend to his business partner.

A Christmas tale, by Arnaud Desplechin (2008): Abel and Junon Vuillard had two sons: Joseph and Elizabeth. Joseph gets sick and realises that a bone marrow transplant is necessary. Neither the parents nor Elizabeth are compatible. Thus, Abel and Junon decide to have another kid, hoping for a possible donation. Yet, even Henri is incompatible, and Joseph dies at the age of seven. The mourning for Joseph gradually gets better as their fourth kid, Ivan, is born. Years after, Elizabeth, a successful theatre screen-play writer, helps Henri, who is nearly bankrupt, but at one condition: she does not want to ever see him again. Years have gone by and it is Christmas. Junon learns to be sick from the same evil as Joseph. So, she begins to search a donor within her family: one may be Paul, Elizabeth’s tormented teenager son and the other could be Henri, who reappeared (invited by Paul) with his momentary girlfriend, the Jewish Faunia. The family finds itself in their hometown, Roubaix, and Henri will have to decide whether to offer a transplant to his mother, which may save (yet also kill) a mother who he has never loved.

Wedding banquet, by Ang Lee (1993): Taiwanese Wai-tung, a successful manager, has been living in New York with his companion Simon for two years, hiding his homosexuality from his parents. The latter, even though kilometres away, aim to plan Wai-tung’s wedding, yet he continuously refuses. One day, Simon thinks about simulating a wedding at Wai-tung’s convenience, between the latter and his tenant, to make Wai-tung’s parents happy. Yet, the latter decides to fly to New York to meet their daughter in law, forcing the three to an unlikely staging.
