Chissà da dove si affacciava Caterina Bueno, la Caterina di cui cantava Francesco De Gregori nel 1982, quando diceva che quella sua canzone “la vorrei veder volare sopra i tetti di Firenze, per poterti conquistare”. Ci piace pensare che quei tetti Caterina e Francesco li guardassero da una delle terrazze affacciate sulla città. Alcune sono note, altre nascoste persino ai residenti: vi si può ammirare il panorama, sorseggiare un caffè o un cocktail, magari concedersi una cena intima. Ecco quelle che consentono di godere del buon cibo godendo del privilegio di una prospettiva particolare sulla città. C’è la terrazza di Villa Bardini, che per l’estate apre “by night” con l’aperitivo del Chiosco ai Renai: i suoi tre soci, abituati a proporre aperitivi in atmosfera cosmopolita e informale in luoghi storici, grazie anche alla collaborazione con lo chef Filippo Saporito (La Leggenda di Frati), hanno deciso di trasferire nella terrazza delle rose, davanti a Villa Bardini, un’Ape Piaggio trasformata in food truck. Da non perdere è la terrazza del Golden View, in via de’ Bardi: da poco rinnovato, il ristorante ha un’esposizione su Ponte Vecchio con vista esclusiva su Firenze, grazie a una terrazza segreta – quella della suite – dove è possibile organizzare cene private. Famosa la cantina del ristorante, con più di 8.000 bottiglie, la seconda di Firenze, mentre i piatti dello chef Paolo Secci consentono un’immersione nella freschezza del pescato siciliano. Altra terrazza con vista tra le meno conosciute di Firenze, e forse per questo ancor più magica, è quella su due livelli dell’hotel La Scaletta, da cui si accede al Panorama Restaurant. Il primo, con un piccolo ma fornito cocktail bar, offre la vista su Palazzo Pitti, Forte Belvedere e le colline; il secondo, ancor più intimo, consente la visuale a 360° dell’intero panorama cittadino. Con Ponte Vecchio e il Duomo davanti, Santa Croce a destra e il piazzale Michelangelo a sinistra, l’Empireo Rooftop dell’hotel Lucchesi offre uno degli scorci più belli della città durante un light lunch, aperitivo e cena, bevendo un cocktail o provando il nuovo menu alla carta, affidato allo chef Simone Cipriani e alla sua cucina a vista. Sulla terrazza dell’hotel Lucchesi, protagonista della proposta food & beverage è una miscelazione classica ma contemporanea, con una cocktail list ispirata alla musica. Novità dell’estate è The Lodge Club, alle Rampe, con il più grande ristorante di cucina Nikkei della Toscana e una superba vista dall’Oltrarno. Il cuore della città ospita evergreen come il ToscaNino alla Rinascente, in piazza della Repubblica – un must per un caffè, ma da provare per cocktail, burger a tema e club sandwich – oppure il roof top dell’hotel Minerva, in piazza Santa Maria Novella, con una cocktail list che valorizza i prodotti locali e la cucina di Tommaso Calonaci. La vista su Firenze è spettacolare anche dalle colline che la circondano: ne è esempio la terrazza di Coquinarius Fiesole, ristorante “gemello” di quello in via delle Oche, con tre diversi livelli terrazzati (e ben 120 posti a sedere) e un atelier botanico con piante insolite. In un menù vocato al barbecue – burger, galletto marinato, ribs e polpo grigliato, oltre a bistecche di scottona mugellana e la Sashi finlandese – spicca la pluma di maiale iberico. Oppure la terrazza del ristorante La Loggia di Villa San Michele (gruppo Belmond), feudo dello chef Alessandro Cozzolino, con i suoi ampi spazi all’aperto e la sua offerta gastronomica, di mixology e pizza nei giardini all’italiana. Infine, tre novità per l’estate alla Loggia al piazzale Michelangelo: la cucina del “ViaVai”, i gelati della gelateria La Carraia e una nuova cocktail list.

Terraces overlooking the rooftops of the city. Where to eat or sip a cocktail while enjoying a view over Florence

Who knows where Caterina Bueno was sitting when, in 1928, De Gregori sang “I would want to see her fly over the roofs of Florence, to conquer her.” We like to think that Caterina and Francesco stared at those roofs from one of the terraces overlooking the city. Some are known, others are hidden even to residents: from atop these locations, you can admire the panorama, sip on a coffee or a cocktail, or even have an intimate dinner. Here is a brief guide of Florence’s rooftops to enjoy good food while experiencing the privilege of a particular perspective over the city. Let’s start from the terrace of , open “by night” in the summertime with an aperitivo by Chiosco ai Renai: the three partners, who are used to offering aperitivo in cosmopolitan and informal atmospheres in historical settings, thanks to the collaboration with chef Filippo Saporito (La Leggenda dei Frati), decided to move an Ape Piaggio turned food truck into the rose terrace, facing Villa Bardini. Not to be missed is the terrace of , in via de’ Bardi: recently renovated, the restaurant sees Ponte Vecchio with an exclusive view over Florence thanks to a secret terrace – that of the suite – where private dinners can be organized. The restaurant also boasts the second largest wine cellar in Florence, with over 8.000 bottles, while the creations of chef Paolo Secci offer a full immersion in the freshness of Sicialin seafood. Another not-too-popular terrace with a view in Florence, and probably, for this reason, even more magical, is the one situated on two separate levels atop Hotel La Scaletta and its . The first level features a small yet stocked cocktail bar, with Palazzo Pitti, Forte Belvedere and the hills as a backdrop; the second, even more intimate, offers a 360º view over the entire city. Our next stop faces Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo, with Santa Croce on its right and Piazzale Michelangelo to its left: the of the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi, which offers one of the most stunning perspectives of the city and is the ideal location for a light lunch, aperitivo or dinner, drinking a cocktail or trying the new à la carte menu, curated by chef Simone Cipriani and his brigade. The food and beverage offering at Plaza Hotel Lucchesi is characterized by a classic yet contemporary mixology, with a cocktail list inspired to music. A new entry in town is , at the Rampe: the largest Nikkei restaurant in Tuscany with a superb view of the Oltrarno. The city centre is also home to evergreen locations like , atop Rinascente, in Piazza della Repubblica – a must for a coffee, but also for cocktails, themed burgers or a club sandwich – or the rooftop of , in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, with a cocktail list that values local products, combined with the cuisine by Tommaso Calonaci. But Florence can also be admired from its surrounding hills: an example is the terrace of , the “twin” restaurant of the one in Via delle Oche, with three different terraced levels (and 120 covers) and a botanical atelier with many unusual plants. In a menu focused on barbecue and grill – burgers, marinated cockerel, ribs and grilled octopus, and even Mugello “scottona” steaks and Finnish Sashi – worthy of note is the pluma of Iberian pork. And let’s not forget the terrace of the restaurant (a Belmond hotel), the stomping grounds of chef Alessandro Cozzolino, with its large open spaces and a stunning gastronomical, mixology and pizza offering in the villa’s Italian gardens. Finally, another new spot for this summer is the in Piazzale Michelangelo, featuring the cuisine by “ViaVai”, the gelato of La Carraia and a brand new cocktail list.
