La mostra Donatello, il Rinascimento è aperta al pubblico dal 19 marzo al 31 luglio 2022, con due sedi nella città di Firenze: la Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi e il Museo Nazionale del Bargello. Gli orari di apertura sono dalle ore 10:00 alle ore 20:00 eccetto per il giovedì, giorni in cui l’apertura è estesa fino alle 23:00. La mostra presenta tutte le opere più famose di Donatello, raccontando il percorso dell’artista e le origini del patrimonio artistico lasciato.

Le sculture e i dipinti esposti sono posizionati in parallela ad altre opere di artisti considerati pilastri del Rinascimento, tali che Bellini, Raffaele, Mantegna, Michelangelo e Brunelleschi per menzionarne alcuni. L’obbiettivo di mettere queste opere in prospettiva le une dalle altre è quello di sottolineare le tecniche uniche di Donatello, il suo stile che si differenzia dagli altri, e come quest’ultimo si è sviluppato attraverso gli anni. Ricordo che Donatello rimane un artista avanguardista rinascimentale per il suo uso innovativo dei materiali, introducendo un elemento di plasticità all’arte della scultura. Con questo obbiettivo, l’esposizione racconta la storia di Donatello e del suo talento artistico stanza dopo stanza, attraverso i suoi pezzi più famosi tali che i due David, le statue di San Giorgio, Marzocco, Amore-Attis (grazie alla collaborazione di musei nazionali e stranieri) e la Madonna col Bambino.

La mostra è a cura di Francesco Caglioti, in collaborazione con molti altri musei e Istituzioni al livello locale e nazionale, con l’obbiettivo d’ informare il pubblico del ruolo e delle tecniche di Donatello nel Rinascimento, cuore del patrimonio culturale di Firenze. Questa mostra è organizzata in collaborazione con lo Staatliche Museen di Berlino, il Victoria and Albert Museum di Londra e il Fondo Edifici di Culto. Donatello at Palazzo Strozzi and the Bargello Museums

The exhibition Donatello, The Renaissance is open to the public from March 19th to July 31st, 2022, in two locations in the city of Florence: the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation and the National Museum of Bargello. The opening hours are from 10:00 to 20:00 except for Thursday, when the opening is extended until 11 pm. The exhibition presents all of Donatello’s most famous works, recounting the artist’s journey and the origins of the artistic heritage left.

The sculptures and paintings on display are placed parallelly to other works by artists considered pillars of the Renaissance, such as Bellini, Raffaele, Mantegna, Michelangelo and Brunelleschi to mention a few. The goal of placing these works in perspective from one other is to emphasize the unique techniques used by Donatello, his singular style that differs from others, and how the latter has developed throughout the years. Let’s remember that Donatello remains considered a Renaissance avant-garde artist for his innovative use of materials, introducing an element of plasticity to the art of sculpture. With this objective, the exhibition tells the story of Donatello and his artistic talent room after room, through his most famous pieces such as the two David, the statues of Saint George, Marzocco, Love-Attis (thanks to the collaboration of national and foreign museums) and the Madonna and the Child.

The exhibition is curated by Francesco Caglioti, in collaboration with many other museums and Institutions at local and national level, with the aim of informing the public of Donatello’s role and techniques during the Renaissance, constituting the heart of Florence’s cultural heritage. This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Staatliche Museen in Berlin, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Buildings of Worship Fund. Supporters include the Foundation CR Florence, the Mairy of Florence, the Tuscany Region, the Chamber of Commerce of Florence and the Committee of Partners of Palazzo Strozzi.
