Dal 10 al 15 gennaio 2023, il Teatro della Pergola invita il pubblico alla prima nazionale del progetto teatrale Interno Bernhard, composto da due pezzi, il Riformatore del mondo e Minetti – Ritratto di un artista da vecchio. Il progetto è firmato da Glauco Mauri e Roberto Sturno, che insieme costituiscono la Compagnia Mauri Sturno, ovvero uno dei gruppi teatrali italiani più longevi, ed è diretto da Andrea Baracco. Lo spettacolo rende omaggio al grande autore austriaco Thomas Bernhard, il quale preferiva la solitudine alla fama del pubblico, come riflesso in diversi dei suoi testi teatrali. La prima parte dello spettacolo mette in scena Il riformatore del mondo, interpretato da Sturni. Nella seconda parte, la Compagnia presenta al pubblico Minetti – Ritratto di un artista da vecchio, una storia che in vari modi rivela pezzi d’identità del suo autore.

 

Sul palcoscenico con i due protagonisti si trovano anche Stefania Micheli, Zoe Zolferino, Federico Brugnone e Giuliano Bruzzese. I costumi sono di Marta Crisolini Malatesta e le musiche di Vanja Sturno e Giacomo Vezzani, e le luci sono di Umile Vainieri.

 

Il riformatore del mondo è un testo datato del 1979, che racconta la storia di un vecchio intellettuale che odia il mondo e i suoi abitanti. Il protagonista sta per ricevere una laurea “honoris causa” per un suo scritto su come salvare il mondo, anche se per lui ciò rivela che nessuno ha mai letto il suo scritto perché quest’ultimo rivela che per un mondo migliore, tutti gli uomini dovrebbero sparire dalla terra. L’unica persona che accetta come compagnia è Clov, che si occupa di lui e rompe il silenzio costante nel quale si troverebbe altrimenti.

 

In una seconda parte, il noto attore tedesco Minetti, che attraverso gli anni interpreta molti testi di Thomas Bernhard, diventa parte del titolo dell’opera dedicata dall’autore Bernhard nel testo teatrale Minetti – Ritratto di un artista da vecchio. Interpretare le nozioni tragicomiche del drammaturgo, che spesso puntando a impressioni crudeli, non fu semplice per l’attore. La storia racconta di un uomo che vive in una situazione di miseria e che, nell’aspettare di portare in scena per l’ultima volta Re Lear in una notte di Capodanno in un albergo, riflette sulla propria esistenza, si pone domande rispetto alla sua identità come molti si pongono nel mestiere dell’attore.

 

Un senso di esistenzialismo pervade entrambi gli spettacoli, coinvolgendo il pubblico in una riflessione sull’importanza del teatro, e di ciò che riesce a raccontare in modo diverso da altre forme artistiche.

Interior Bernhard – The Reformer of the World | Minetti – Portrait of an old artist at the Teatro della Pergola

 

From the 10th to the 15th of January 2023, the Teatro della Pergola invites the public to the national premiere of the theatrical project Interior Bernhard, consisting of two pieces, The Reformer of the World and Minetti – Portrait of an Artist from Old. The project is signed by Glauco Mauri and Roberto Sturno, who together constitute the Mauri Sturno Company, that is one of the longest-lived Italian theater groups, and is directed by Andrea Baracco. The show pays tribute to the great Austrian author Thomas Bernhard, who preferred solitude to public fame, as reflected in several of his plays. The first part of the show features The Reformer of the World, played by Sturni. In the second part, the Company presents to the public Minetti – Portrait of an old artist, a story that in various ways reveals pieces of identity of its author.

On stage with the two protagonists are also Stefania Micheli, Zoe Zolferino, Federico Brugnone and Giuliano Bruzzese. The costumes are by Marta Crisolini Malatesta and the music by Vanja Sturno and Giacomo Vezzani, and the lights are by Umile Vainieri.

The Reformer of the World is a text from 1979, which tells the story of an old intellectual who hates the world and its inhabitants. The protagonist is about to receive an “honoris causa” degree for a paper on how to save the world, although for him this reveals that no one has ever read his writing because the latter reveals that for a better world, all men should disappear from the earth. The only person he accepts as company is Clov, who takes care of him and breaks the constant silence he would otherwise find himself in.

In a second part, the well-known German actor Minetti, who through the years plays many texts by Thomas Bernhard, becomes part of the title of the work dedicated by the author Bernhard in the theatrical text Minetti – Portrait of an Artist from Old. Interpreting the dramatist’s tragicomic notions, which often pointed to cruel impressions, was not easy for the actor. The story tells of a man who lives in a situation of misery and who, waiting to stage for the last time King Lear on a New Year’s Eve in a hotel, reflects on his existence, asks questions about his identity as many ask themselves in the profession of the actor.

A sense of existentialism pervades both shows, involving the audience in a reflection on the importance of the theatre, and what it can tell in a different way from other artistic forms.
