Ser Piero, il padre di Leonardo, possedeva una casa annessa a un podere, ad Anchiano, dove la madre ventiquattrenne di Leonardo andrà ad abitare dopo aver avuto il figlio primogenito del notaio. Caterina, la madre era una donna di estrazione sociale popolare e Leonardo era il frutto di una relazione illegittima fra i due. L’antico complesso rurale, di cui si conosce l’esistenza già dal 1427, si trova a pochi chilometri di distanza da Vinci ed è stato trasformato in Museo nel 1952 in occasione del quinto centenario della nascita di Leonardo; fu donato in tempi moderni al Comune dal Conte Rasini di Castelcampo. Da allora la Casa di Anchiano è il luogo della memoria dove attraverso impianti multimediali si narrano le vicende personali e la fortuna del Maestro. Il nuovo percorso museale coinvolge anche la casa colonica adiacente alla dimora natale con la sezione dedicata al Cenacolo. Notizie sulla nascita di Leonardo le fornisce il nonno paterno Antonio, padre di Piero anche lui notaio “Nacque un mio nipote, figliolo di ser Piero mio figliolo a dì 15 aprile in sabato a ore 3 di notte (secondo il calendario gregoriano, il 23 aprile alle ore 21.40). Ebbe nome Lionardo. Battizzollo prete Piero di Bartolomeo da Vinci….”. Nel registro non viene citato il luogo di nascita ma si ritiene che questo possa essere la casa di famiglia ad Anchiano. Oggi la casa è meta di un vero e proprio pellegrinaggio culturale che consente di riscoprire l’origine del grande Genio toscano.

The Home of Leonardo in Anchiano (Vinci)

Ser Piero, the father of Leonardo, owned a home connected to a farm in Anchiano, where, at 24 years of age, the mother of Leonardo would live after having the first-born child of the notary. Caterina, the mother, was a lowborn woman and Leonardo was the result of an illegitimate relationship between the two. The ancient rural complex, of which the existence has been known since 1427, is found a few kilometres away from Vinci and has been transformed in a Museum in 1952, in occasion of the fifth centenary since the birth of Leonardo; it was donated in recent times to the City by Count Rasini of Castelcampo. Since then, the Home of Anchiano is a place for remembering, thanks to multimedia devices that narrate the personal stories and fortunes of the Maestro. The new museum itinerary also involves the homestead adjacent to the birthplace, with a section dedicated to the Cenacle. Facts on Leonardo’s birth are provided by a testimony left by his paternal grandfather, Antonio, father of Piero, also a notary: “A grandson of mine was born, son of my son, ser Piero, on Saturday, April 15 at 3 am (according to the Gregorian calendar, on April 23rd at 9:40 pm). He was named Lionardo, baptized by his father Piero di Bartolomeo da Vinci…” The birth records do not indicate the exact birthplace, but it is understood that it could have been the family home in Anchiano. Today, the home is a location of true cultural pilgrimage, allowing visitors to rediscover of the origins of the great Tuscan genius.
