Conversazioni sull’opera, a program of events dedicated to the author’s greatest works

Until August 31, 2024, Conversations on the Opera (Conversazioni sull’opera) will return to the Auditorium Simonetta Puccini, in Torre del Lago, with the goal of promoting and deepening the knowledge of the works by the Maestro. A cycle of events that proposes six meetings, each dedicated to one of the great masterpieces by Giacomo Puccini, with the pianist Silvia Gasperini, who will share with the public the musical landscapes of Le Villi, Edgar, Manon Lescaut, La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, and Tosca, to then comment the fundamental and salient parts of the booklet. These events, which are free of charge, will be introduced by the execution of arias by Puccini and of a few piano performances, while in the months of July and August they will open the scene for the melodramas at the Gran Teatro Giacomo Puccini, in occasion of the 70th Puccini Festival. Among the scheduled appointments, we recommend that of Saturday, July 20, dedicated to La Bohème, Puccini’s most emblematic work and still today one of the most represented in the world, for which the author created unforgettable melodies. A hymn to youth and carefreeness, which leaves room also to nostalgia and death. Friday, August 9 will see the performance of Tosca, perhaps the most dramatic opera by the Maestro, which ends with the departure of all three protagonists: the singer Floria Tosca, her beloved Mario Cavaradossi, and the baron Scarpia, the arrogant chief of police who puts himself in between their love. The program closes Saturday, August 31, with an appointment dedicated to the exotic Madama Butterfly. The protagonist is 15-year-old Cio Cio-san, who, fallen in disgrace after the seppuku of her father, hopes to make a comeback thanks to a good marriage and decides to wed the young American official Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton, who will tragically leave her after the nuptials, leading her to take away her life.
