Nel 2022 sono stati celebrati oltre 11.100 matrimoni di coppie straniere in Italia, gli Stati Uniti sono il principale paese di provenienza delle coppie straniere, seguiti dal Regno Unito, e la Toscana si è confermata come “la regione più richiesta dalle coppie straniere” e “da sempre meta ambita per i matrimoni”. Le coppie desiderano scenari unici ed eccellenze enogastronomiche, i micro-matrimoni e la “fuga d’amore” sono sempre più popolari (oltre il 34% delle celebrazioni) e il 18,8% delle coppie sceglie la formula della Wedding week, una festa che dura più giorni e include visite guidate alla scoperta del territorio. L’estate è la stagione preferita per celebrare il grande giorno e infatti il 73,7% dei matrimoni si concentrano nei mesi di giugno, luglio, agosto e settembre”. Questi sono alcuni dati emersi dall’indagine realizzata dal Centro Studi Turistici di Firenze e dal Convention Bureau Italia che confermano l’incidenza strategica del segmento “wedding” in Toscana. Per saperne di più abbiamo intervistato una professionista di grande successo: Rita Tavella. Rita è italo-americana, sempre sorridente e dinamica, è cresciuta tra New York (sua città natale), Roma e Firenze. A Roma ha svolto studi giuridici e ha iniziato a lavorare in un’importante agenzia di eventi. Nel 2006 si trasferisce a Firenze e fonda la sua “MCR Conference Srl” e nel 2017 il brand “Your Wedding in Florence”.

Rita ci racconti come e dove nasce la tua storia imprenditoriale?

Il destination wedding è nel mio DNA! Il primo destination wedding della mia famiglia è stato quello dei miei genitori, perché come in un romanzo, la famiglia di mio padre, originaria del sud Italia, è immigrata in America, a New York. Una volta adulto, mio padre è tornato in Italia per scoprire le sue origini ed ha incontrato e sposato mia madre, il loro è stato amore a prima vista. Sul finire degli anni ’50, il matrimonio è stato celebrato in un piccolo paesino della Calabria; le immagini d’epoca sono bellissime, con il corteo nuziale degli inviati e di tutto il paese fino alla chiesa, il lancio dei confetti, delle monetine e dei cioccolatini (Perugina naturalmente!) come da tradizione, e tale fu la bellezza della giornata che è ancora indelebile nei ricordi di chi era presente. È proprio questa la magia che cerco di rievocare per i miei sposi, affinché sia anche per loro unico e indimenticabile. Your Wedding in Florence nasce nel 2017 da un sogno che portavo nel cassetto da diverso tempo. Dopo più di 25 anni di esperienza nel mondo degli eventi, grazie alla conoscenza del territorio e alle mie origini italo-americane, ho deciso di fondare un’agenzia dedicata al destination wedding e alle esperienze romantiche in Toscana. Mi piace l’idea di aiutare le coppie provenienti da ogni parte del mondo a realizzare i loro sogni più romantici a Firenze e in Toscana.

Quali sono i servizi più richiesti dalle coppie che desiderano sposarsi a Firenze e in Toscana?

I nostri clienti ci chiedono di realizzare per loro un evento memorabile dal design esclusivo. Curiamo ogni singolo aspetto non solo del matrimonio, ma di tutte le altre attività ad esso connesse, dal welcome party ai tour, dalle visite a porte chiuse nelle più prestigiose cantine vinicole alle esperienze gastronomiche. Selezioniamo la location perfetta, creiamo un progetto creativo personalizzato ed aiutiamo le nostre coppie ad identificare i fornitori più adatti alle loro esigenze. Perché agli sposi piace così tanto la Toscana e quanto incide nel tuo lavoro la conoscenza del nostro territorio?

Per i futuri sposi la Toscana rappresenta il luogo perfetto per sperimentare la famosa Dolce Vita italiana, tra paesaggi mozzafiato, ottimo cibo, antichi borghi e celebri opere d’arte. Anche il clima mite, che caratterizza la nostra regione da maggio a ottobre, ha una grande importanza. Tutto ciò contribuisce a determinare l’amore incondizionato per la Toscana. Ricordi il film Under the Tuscan Sun, con Diane Lane? Ecco, la Toscana è esattamente quella! Antiche ville medicee, romantici castelli, residenze storiche, borghi arroccati, resort di campagna immersi nella natura, wine estates, luxury hotels, ce ne sono per tutti i gusti! Castello Banfi, Belmond Castello di Casole, Villa Mangiacane, Villa Gamberaia, Villa La Foce, o ancora Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, il Four Seasons e il St Regis… sono alcuni esempi. In 2022, over 11,100 foreign couples celebrated their wedding in Italy, with the United States representing the country with the greatest number of newlyweds, followed by the United Kingdom, and Tuscany confirmed its spot as “the most sought-after region by foreign couples” and “a very desired destination for weddings.” Couples wish for unique scenarios with stunning wine and food experiences. Small weddings and “love escapades” are the most popular (over 34% of celebrations) and “18.8% of couples choose the Wedding Week formula: a party that spreads across multiple days and includes guided tours to discover the surrounding territory. Summer is the preferred season to celebrate the great day and, in fact, 73.7% of weddings are concentrated in the months of June, July, August, and September.” These are just some of the highlights of the report carried out by the Tourism Studies Centre of Florence and by Convention Bureau Italia, which confirm the strategic incidence of the “wedding” sector in Tuscany. To know more, we interviewed a successful professional such as Rita Tavella. Rita is an always smiling and lively Italo-American who grew up between New York (her birthplace), Rome, and Florence. In Rome, she carried out her law studies and began to work in an important events agency. In 2006, she moved to Florence and founded her company MCR Conference Srl, and then, in 2017, the brand Your Wedding in Florence.
Rita, could you tell us about how you started your journey as an entrepreneur?

Destination weddings are in my DNA! The first destination wedding I took part in was that of my parents: since, as in a fairy-tale, my father’s family, with origins from the South of Italy, immigrated to the United States, in New York. Once he came of age, my father returned to Italy to retrace his origins and met my mother, who he then married; it was love at first sight. At the end of the ‘50s, the wedding was celebrated in a small town in Calabria; the photos from the time are beautiful and show the bridal procession with the invitees and all of town leading up to the church, the traditional throwing of the confetti, of the coins, and of the chocolates (Perugina, of course!), which made for such a beautiful day that still remains ingrained in the memories of those who were present. It’s this magic that I try to evoke in my spouses, so that they may also live a unique and unforgettable day. Your Wedding in Florence was born in 2017 from a dream that I held dear for some time. After more than 25 years of experience in the world of events, thanks to my knowledge of the territory and to my Italo-American origins, I decided to establish an agency dedicated to destination weddings and to romantic experiences in Tuscany. I like the idea of helping couples from all corners of the world to realize their most romantic dreams in Florence and in Tuscany.
What are the most requested services by couples who wish to get married in Florence and in Tuscany?

Our clients ask us to create a memorable event, designed exclusively for them. We take care of every single aspect, not just of the wedding itself but all other activities too, such as the welcome party and tours, or even private visits of some of the most prestigious wineries and gastronomic experiences. We select the ideal location, design a creative and bespoke project, and help our couples find the best suppliers to make their dreams come true. Our flagship are romantic experiences, from surprise wedding proposals in the vineyard or on a hot air balloon, to an anniversary celebrated with a candlelight dinner and panoramic views over the city or the rolling hills. The mild climate also contributes to determine the unconditional love for Tuscany. Do you remember the movie Under the Tuscan Sun, with Diane Lane? Well, Tuscany is exactly that! Ancient Medicean villas, romantic castles, historic residences, perched hamlets, countryside resorts immersed in nature, wine estates, luxury hotels… there’s really something for everyone!
