Welcome Day & Let’s Work Artisans!
Also this year Florence is getting ready to welcome International students who have chosen the famous cradle of the Renaissance as their favorite cultural venue in order to enrich their studies through their own personal experiences. Following the path of the nineteenth-century Grand Tour tradition, the Florentine time will be enriched visiting museums and renown masterpieces, and by discovering typical traditional secrets, crafts curiosities, and exploring the arts that have made Florence place of excellences admired all over the world. The traditional Welcome Day! Ceremony takes place on october 8 as usual in the Salone dei Cinquecento, in Palazzo Vecchio, with the intent of welcoming the students, introducing the city, and offering the most authentic overview of what Florence can offer. The city Institutions, in collaboration with the Associations organizing the event, also present the interesting and varied educational projects available to International students over the entire Academic Year.

The evening will continue toasting all together in the Sala d’Arme, here all participants have the opportunity of learning more about all the initiatives dedicated to the students promoted by the city Institutions and the event Partners.

The educational project Let’s Work Artisans!, promoted by OmA – Associazione Osservatorio dei Mestieri d’Arte, is proud of being among the event Partners presenting its initiatives.

Let’s Work Artisans! main goal is introducing foreign students and visitors to the Florentine artistic handicraft, deepening their knowledge always through activities based on the experiential learning.

Besides the well-known Laboratories at the artisans’ workshops, realized also thanks to the master artisans skills, there are Lectures about the artistic crafts, Itineraries and new practical Workshops available for adults and kids. Lectures introduce International students, scholars, and those with specific interests to the comprehension of history, ethical value, social, cultural, and economic role occupied by the artistic craft in Florence, Tuscany, and Italy.

Itineraries through the typical Florentine botteghe include new and interesting spots and ateliers runned by young talented artisans, who have established their place in the heart of the Oltrarno area. They will open their doors to welcome visitors and clients arriving from all over the world.

Practical Worshops take the International crowd into places where hand made creations arise, offering the unique opportunity of living hands-on experiences, expressing and sharing creativity while making original handworks.

OmA Association wants to support activities also dedicated to kids with Let’s Work Artisans! Junior. Participating to interactive workshops based on both storytelling and experiential learning approaches, also kids can practice and become familiar with the English Language in an authentic and engaging context.

Come ogni anno Firenze si prepara ad accogliere gli studenti stranieri che la scelgono come meta culturale per accrescere il percorso di studi attraverso l’esperienza diretta.

Come per la tradizione ottocentesca del Gran Tour, la tappa fiorentina alla scoperta di musei e opere illustri si arricchisce svelando i segreti delle tradizioni tipiche, delle curiosità artigianali e del desiderio di esplorare le materie che hanno reso Firenze, luogo d’eccellenza nel mondo. La cerimonia del Welcome Day!, che si celebra l’8 ottobre 2014, si svolge come ogni anno nel Salone dei Cinquecento a Palazzo Vecchio e vuole accogliere gli studenti e presentare la città con l’intento di offrirne l’immagine più autentica.

Le istituzioni cittadine, in collaborazione con le associazioni organizzatrici dell’evento danno il benvenuto e illustrano l’interessante offerta formativa a disposizione degli studenti internazionali per l’intero anno accademico.

La serata prosegue con un brindisi nella Sala d’Arme dove si apre il dialogo con i partner e le istituzioni che condividono e promuovono l’evento.

Tra queste, Let’s Work Artisans! progetto promosso da OmA – Associazione Osservatorio dei Mestieri d’Arte che ha come obiettivo quello di raccontare la realtà artigianale fiorentina agli studenti e ai visitatori stranieri e di approfondire la conoscenza attraverso un percorso esperienziale.

Oltre alle ormai consolidate attività di laboratorio, realizzate grazie alla competenza dei maestri artigiani, sono disponibili anche Lectures sui mestieri d’arte, itinerari e workshop ovvero proposte didattiche e culturali che possono interessare adulti e bambini. Le lectures sui mestieri d’arte introducono studenti internazionali, studiosi ed appassionati alla comprensione della storia, del valore etico, del ruolo socio-culturale ed economico che l’artigianato artistico rappresenta a Firenze, in Toscana e in Italia.

Gli itinerari nelle botteghe fiorentine si arricchiscono di nuovi e interessanti tappe, come gli atelier dei giovani creativi che hanno scelto il cuore dell’Oltrarno quale sede di lavoro per aprirsi alla città e al mondo.

I workshop accompagnano la comunità internazionale all’interno delle botteghe, vivendo attraverso l’esperienza e la vicinanza con la materia artigianale, momenti di creatività e condivisione nel realizzare un manufatto.

OmA ha anche voluto dedicare particolare attenzione alle attività per i più piccoli. Con Let’s Work Artisans! Junior, attraverso l’attività creativa del fatto a mano si avvicina alla lingua inglese, in un contesto autentico e coinvolgente.
