Kent State University - Florence is You!

Participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new headquarters of Kent State University in Florence on Sunday, April 17, 2016, I marveled at the recent renovations to restore the Renaissance splendor of the beautiful Palazzo Vettori, in via Cavour 26, made possible by the generous contributions of the benefactors and the University.

Present at this important event were the President of the University, Beverly Warren, Provost, Marcello Fantoni, along with professors and University donors who travelled from the United States to witness this significant event; a testimony to the meaningful and important contribution made by the University and its collegiate to our city, through the “study abroad” program, which hosts thousands of American students every year.
The ceremony held in the Lecture Hall of the palace, was attended by Nicoletta Mantovani, Councilor for International Affairs of Florence, Eugenio Giani, Council President of the Tuscan Region, Chang Hosung, President of Dankook University, partner university of Kent State, Portia Prebys, President of AACUPI (Association of American College and University Programs in Italy) who welcomed Kent State University into the prestigious new headquarters in the heart of Florence. Kent State University has sent students from Ohio to Florence since 1972 so they may attend programs in Architecture, Fashion & Design, Communication Sciences, Business, Psychology, Sociology, Political Sciences, History, Art History, thus enriching their personal learning and life experience. Fabrizio Ricciardelli, Director of the Kent State University Florence, and Co-Secretary Treasurer of AACUPI, stated: “The establishment in Palazzo Vettori represents an important turning point for this prestigious American university; and the number of students the institution houses every year in the Tuscan capital is expected to grow significantly”.

Domenica 17 aprile 2016 ho preso parte alla cerimonia di inaugurazione della nuova sede della Kent State University in Florence, nel bellissimo Palazzo Vettori, in Via Cavour n. 26, appena restaurato e riportato al suo rinascimentale splendore grazie al generoso contributo dell’Università che ora ospita e dei suoi benefattori. All’importante evento hanno preso parte il Presidente dell’università Beverly Warren, il Provost Todd Diacon, l’Associate Provost Marcello Fantoni, insieme ai professori ed ai donatori dell’università arrivati a Firenze dagli Stati Uniti, appositamente per partecipare a questa significativa occasione; significativa ed importante testimonianza non solo per l’università ed i suoi studenti, ma anche per la nostra città che ogni anno, grazie ai programmi di “study abroad” accoglie migliaia di studenti americani. Alla cerimonia nella Lecture Hall del palazzo, hanno partecipato Nicoletta Mantovani Assessore alle Relazioni Internazionali del Comune di Firenze, Eugenio Giani, Presidente del Consiglio della Regione Toscana, Chang Ho-sung, Presidente della Dankook University, università partner della Kent State, Portia Prebys, Presidente della AACUPI (Association of American College and University Programs in Italy) che hanno espresso il loro benvenuto alla Kent State University nella nuova prestigiosa sede nel cuore di Firenze. È dal 1972 che Kent State University invia dall’Ohio i propri studenti a Firenze affinché possano frequentare i programmi di Architettura, Fashion & Design, Scienze della Comunicazione, Business, Psicologia, Sociologia, Scienze Politiche, Storia e Storia dell’Arte, arricchendo, così, la loro esperienza formativa e personale. Fabrizio Ricciardelli, Direttore della Kent State University Florence, e Co-Secretary Treasurer di AACUPI, ha dichiarato: “L’insediamento a Palazzo Vettori rappresenta per questa prestigiosa università americana un’importante svolta. Il numero degli studenti che tale istituzione ospita ogni anno nel capoluogo toscano è destinato a crescere notevolmente”.
