Dulcis in fundo Cantuccino amore mio

When you bite into a cantuccino, you get a taste of Tuscany, with all its history but also with its familiar daily life that manages to be condensed into a biscuit, served together with Vin Santo, as “the last but not the least”, in a relaxed, accomplice atmosphere, that prolongs intimate talks and that only a hospitable table can create. A simple sweet, made with simple ingredients, eggs, flour, sugar, almonds, becomes a symbol of hospitality, and for the magic of things made out of love, it has travelled throughout centuries, arriving here, to us, with an intact fragrance of tradition. Even the name “cantuccino”, from the Latin “cantellus” (piece of sliced bread) suggests an embrace, ready to offer us a unique moment of pure delight.

Vinsanto The wine of friendship

Vinsanto has legendary origins that date back to the beginning of Christianity describing an especially pure wine suitable for the consecration in the Holly Mass ritual. It is said that during the Council of Florence commissioned by Pope Eugenio I in 1439 in order to discuss the unity of the Western Church with the Eastern one, among the seven hundred Greek high priests present there was also humanist Cardinal Bessarion, who, during a banquet, after tasting a sweet, amber colored wine, enthusiastically exclaimed: “this is the wine of Xantos” (referring to the Greek island where the wine was produced from dried grapes). The guests and butlers interpreted his statement “Sanctus” as a compliment for the excellency of their Tuscan wine.

Great excitement for Bite Into Florence

The initiative BITE INTO FLORENCE organized by Florence’s Chamber of Commerce, successfully continues with the promotion of typical DOP and IGP products among the foreign students that frequent the universities for foreigners in Florence. There are five schools that already accepted the proposal of the Chamber, realized in collaboration with the Consortium for the protection of wines Chianti and Chianti Classico and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Toscano IGP. The tasting sessions realized in the last few months led by professional olive oil tasters and sommeliers, have enabled students of Richmond University, New York University, Florida State University, James Madison University and Scuola Leonardo da Vinci, to learn more about two local products of the Florentine territory, the oil and the wine. During the tastings, and with the help of slides and films, practical information were given to the foreign students on how to distinguish the positive and the negative characteristics of the products, in order to understand the information on the labels, what they mean, for example, the name “reserve” or “bottled at the source”; more than that the students are also given flyers with more information about the cultivation of the product and its varieties. So, a series of “instructions” are given out in order to allow the student to appreciate these products without abuse, particularly when it comes to alcohol products.
